I just got an ATI 9500 pro from NEWEGG. its a red pcb. i was looking to try the mod on it, but i ran into a problem flashing

when i went to flash the ati 9500 pro bios on http://www.3dchipset.com/bios/ati/warp11/index.php,
it said the ascii code was different between my current bios and the file. somthing like xxxx44 and xxxx45

is it ok to "force" flash this, or did i do somthing wrong?

thanks!

Why would you mod the Pro version which only has a 128bit interface? What are you trying to accomplish? An overclock or a 9700 hack? 9700 mod only worked on the 9500 Non Pro with 128MB of memory (128bit^2x4 right angle chips). Not the Pro version. AFAIK atleast. Someone correct me.

1st determine what memory you have on your card.
Look at the ram chips on the card.
infineon or hynix. (most likely infineon since it looks like ya have a Built by Ati card) BUT BE SURE!

Then what speed the ram is. 3.0, 3.3

THIS LINK is for if you have infineon ram.

THIS ONE is if you have hynix ram.

Be sure your comfortable doin this and ya understand the risks of screwing up your card.

If ya still wanna flash your cards bios...heres how.

1: Download the correct unlocked bios from the links above.
2: Download the ATI Flash Utility.
3: Download Radedit aslo.
4: Download Radclocker Utility. (theres other OC'ing utities, choose one ya like)

5:Copy the unlocked bios you download to a bootable floppy. DON'T TRY TO FLASH THE VIDECARD BIOS IN WINDOWS!
6:Copy the ATI flash utility to that same bootable floppy. (be sure to copy both the ATIFLASH.EXE and the DOS4GW.EXE files)

7: Set your pc's bios to boot from floppy and boot off of your bootable floppy.
If done correctly you'll be at a dos prompt.

8: At the dos promt type:

atiflash -s 0 original.bin <---that is a zero not an 'o'
(THIS SAVES YOUR ORIGINAL BIOS!!!!!!!!!)

9: Then type:
atiflash -f -p 0 XXX.bin or xxx.rom <----that is a zero not an 'o' (xxx.bin or xxx.rom = the bios you downloaded)
(THIS FLASHES THE NEW ONE)

10: Install your video drivers again. (you'll most likely need to when ya get back to windows.)

11: Install Radclocker, this will give you an overclocking tab in the videocard properties. (right click desktop /properties /settings /advanced...you'll see the tab)

12: Overclock and test your card.

13: You can continue to use radclocker, or any other OC'ing utility you prefer.

14: But if ya wanna make the clock speeds you are SURE are safe without using a utility, then used Radedit to open the unlocked bios you're using , set the clock speeds to what you want them to ALWAYS BE AT from within Radedit.

15: save your new bios in Radedit using the speeds you want.

16: copy your new "modified" bios you just saved to your bootable floppy.

17: boot off your bootable floppy and follow instructions above to flash your cards bios to the one ya made.
(substituting the name of the bios you saved for the XXX.bin or xxx.rom examples in step 9.

ReMeDy{WcS},
I think he just means to flash to an unlocked bios to overclock.

When you use those bios's the Radeon 9500 Pro will be detected as Radeon 9700 by windows and ATi drivers afterward.

Sorry to hear that.

My 9500 Pro is close to the performance of my 9700 Pro in most games. (not as fast, but 4 the money...fast enough)

Pretty good bang for the buck, shame ya couldnt get yours to co-operate.

Hope ya have better luck with the 9500 nonPro.
