I hooked my sons computer to my hub so he can go on the internet but I want to gain acess to his drive and dump files directly into it and remove files if needed to clean up space. I am dissabled ad it would be easier for me to do it this way instead of going from room to room and having to burn onto a disk if I decide the internet is too much for him and dissconect from internet.

SO anyway I have Flashfxp and I went to the site and did it step by step on both computers making a site, then a ISP but I just cannot get them to connect. It hangs on connecting for a while then dissconects and tries again. I turned off firewalls on both sides thinking that had some play but no effect.

So anyone out there use this program and trasfers files back and forth that can tell me what in the heck I am doing wrong :)
Going crazy over here and thanks in advance!

Thats right, if you can take me step by step and get my computers talking to each other I will give you three of any music cd, playstation game, or pc game title. NOT three of each but a combination of three to shoose from

In order to get them I must be able to gain acess to both computers using FlashFXP. As soon as it works pick out your stuff and I will happily mail it to you. And again keep in mind I am new to this and a idiot so make sure to explain it to me step by step holding my hand the entire way :)

Pick from this list of goodies! Sorry no dvd's, xbox, or vhs tapes unless you do an exceptional job in getting this going!

I was given a Belkin 4 port hub by a friend of mine. I conected it to that and installed msn and it worked. i couldnt believe it was that easy. I was hoping the ftp thing was going to be easy like it is with my xbox but it is giving me a huge PITA right now. Win xp sp2 is what we are using on both. If i can get this figured out I want to do my other sons computer :)

if u want to access your son's computer remotely, i think it would be easier to map a drive to his computer. i know its pretty easy to use fxp to ftp into ur xbox, but i am not sure about the specifics of ftp'ing into another computer. i am assuming that your son's computer would need to be running an ftp server application for you to ftp in? anyway, i am by no means anything close to an expert in that area. i suggest mapping a drive.

i'll see if i can find a drive mapping tutorial somewhere online. if not, i think the windows help thingie should help.

man, i sure wish someone else would come in here and help me out, becuz i know i'm probably not the best person to ask about networking. what's happening is the router creates a home network, and it gives each device that is connected to it (the router) and ip number. with that ip number, u can ftp into ur xbox. i am guessing that the xbox has some native ftp server app running? with windows, if u dont have an ftp server app running, i dont think u can ftp in. someone please correct me if i am wrong.

Acording to the web site I run the flashfxp on both, make up sites and thats it they should talk. it seemed really easy. I would of asked on their site in their forums but they havent gotten really no traffic and to be honest I dont want to wait forever for someone to go through the site and get a answer in a few months. im rather excited now and just cant wait :)
If you can find the maping thing I will look at it. I just like flash. If it is anything like going on the xbox I can just take my files and stick them anywhere on the drive or the desktop.

Also acording to the website if your running the program and your 5000 miles away we could swap programs back and forth as long as I have the isp and password to get in. Unless I am wrong please someone put me right:)

Right click on the folders you want to share on the sons computer, and hit sharing. Enabled file sharing, and file editing.

Now go into your computer and into my network places, and search for all the computers in the network. Find the computer, and double click to see the folders being shared (it might ask for a password) now have fun with his files.

I would go into more detail but I'm exteremly tired and on my way to bed :(. Maybe someone else will join you in this thread and elaborate a bit on what I just said.

yes an ftp program will let u do that. however, you would need an ip#, username, and password.
