Hm. If nothing seems to be working, maybe you should try a repair installation of XP. That should at least allow you to get your data off so you can format a clean install.

Actually, are you able to get to the Recovery console?

That repair installation of XP has been suggested for 9 days now. I think Brickster has fallen in love with his problem, LOL. Hey, Brickster, try my suggestion a few posts up, and if it doesn't work run the repair or get a new HD and re-install.

:p Yeah, the repair was a long time coming, as I had to wait for my CD that was in a box moving cross-country with the our movers (DC to Cali).

I did finally do the repair installation of XP this last Friday. It found the install, repaired, but it still hangs - with strange "Error 2" from above - after the loading screen:

"?IVER_EQL_BOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

Only thing is, instead of just flashing really quick, it actually displays until I restart.

Oh yes, I just love this problem. All my games, all my fun, destroyed one fine day I though I knew what I was doing.

That'll teach me to think I'm clever.

I am going to see about this ACPI stuff and then call it quits even though I hate giving up!

Thanks all,
Brick

Yes. Repair performed successfully. Windows just fails to start after XP loading screen chugs for about 10 seconds.

I have always been able to access the data via a USB IDE HD enclosure I have, so getting precious data off is not an issue, just can't afford a new computer yet to transfer it to!

I hate myself :(

May formate reinstall next ...
