Stupid 1979, why would you pay 75bucks for sound of music????

1) That movie sucked
2) Why pay that much when you could download it!

stupid 1979.

Back in the late 70s/early 80s, movies cost $75 and over. That's how the movie rental business took off. Eventually, say mid-to-late 80s, they were expensive when first released but dropped down into the $20 range after a few months. Or at least that is how I remember it happening. :)

STFU! My "baby" was born in 79...

her older brother was born in 76.

Fucking hell...now you've done it...you've made me feel O-L-D!!

<sigh> Boomer toddles off to take his Geritol. :p

It was considered a classic, (not to my tastes though) and um, well, downloading did not exist in 1979., you knew this right?

So uh, most of the cool tech in that video failed.
Kind of like the current yearly CES.

Sure someone could have ripped it off laserdisc then uploaded to a BBS at 300 baud.

LOL, imagine a TRS-80 trying to encode a 5 gig video, I don't think any BBS had a hard drive anywhere near big enough to hold it..

Isn't it interesting that that business of piracy, for the most part, no longer exists? If the FBI followed the same standards they did yesterday, piracy today would go almost completely unpunished as dollars almost never change hands.

This is why I don't get stuff like RIAA and DRM. It's not piracy, it's charity!

I get DRM and RIAA, they are both out there to try and protect their investments (RIAA through fear, DRM through lock and key). Unfortunately, neither are very effective against piracy. The RIAA pretty much has to go for huge fines in order to justify its costs of operating.

DRM doesn't work because, lets face it, EVENTUALLY media will have to be decrypted. So long as the decryption is happening, someone can get a copy of the non-encrypted stream.
