I bought a Asus A7V133. I doubt it has the latest version of bios that supports Athlon XP.

The problem is that I only have an XP on hand and it won't even boot or beep. Do I have to flash the BIOS first using a non-XP chip?

i would think the mobo would at least post with the xp chip (but you do need the newer bios for the board to properly identify the cpu and to enable the features

but if its not even posting at all you might want to double check the ram and the video card

if thats the bios version then its very old

maybe thats why the system wont post

you may need to install a dif cpu to get the board up so you can flash to a new bios

depends... i know some abit kt7a bios version were that way (bios by default was set to not post if no fan was detected) but that could be changed by getting into bios

im not aware of any a7v133 bios that were that way, but... im not familiar at all with bios 1002

do you have any fans with 3pin connectors to plug in there?

also.... have you tried clearing the cmos? (your board doesnt have a jumper to do it.. which sucks :) )

on your board there are two solder points that need to be shorted to clear the cmos, or... you can unplug it and pull the battery out for 10 min or so

can you actually pull the CMOS chip out??

won't just taking out the battery be alright?

i was expecting some flashing probs so i didn't put a fan on yet. so i didn't plug any fan connectors onto the board.

also i would plug a 3pin fan into the mobo header for the cpu hsf (just in case the bios is checking for the fan)

Was reading this from the German Asus site.

Might be able to by pass the BIOS by manually setting the DIP switches......

If I remember correctly, you need to use bios version 1007 for Athlon XP. You mentioned that you only have XP on hand.. so I suggest you take the mobo back to your supplier and have them update the bios to 1007.

Btw, why did you get A7V133 for your Athlon XP? I would have thought DDR mobo would be a better choice. :)

You should be able to boot up and the CMOS will post the XP as H type Athlon with old bios version.
It'll post the right name for the processor after you flash bios to 1007.

U need at least bios ver 1005 to recognise XP CPU. 1007 ver. to enabled SSE on XP CPU.

Look like u need to put a non-XP CPU in there, flash to 1007 bios...then only XP can be use coz 1002 dun recognise XP CPU.

After flashing, use jumper mode to setup ur vcore, multiplier & FSB setting.

For PCB ver 1.05 mobo, u need to use jumper mode in order to run stable. Jumperfree mode will not work...or at least run stable. This is due to the limitation on the vcore controller chip on the mobo.
