Flash MP3 player for sports -- recommendations? What do you use and how good is it?

I have a Rio Forge 256MB, and it's a nice player but has been developing some problems lately (randomly shuts off when I hit the volume or jar it).

So, I turn to the vast knowledge of ATOT -- what's a good MP3 player for sports activity? I use it predominently for weight lifting, but I'll also use it for running. Arm band is essential, but I don't need any more memory than 256MB though an SD expansion slot would be nice. Any ideas?
 
Which models, or are they all about the same? There's one at Outpost for $59, which is right at my price point, but I didn't see any provision for expansion. Do they typically have a memory slot, or are they strictly internal memory?
 
IIRC all iriver's are internal. lexar, creative (you just missed a deal on outpost), rio and other companies make expandable's.
 
Have you tried reflashing the firmware?

I've got a Creative Sport C100, which every few months seems to exhibit the same symptons you describe and reflashing the firmware fixes it.

This probably won't help you since I don't think they make them anymore but the Intel Pocket Concert is one solid freaking player. I've had mine for a couple years, won it during the MSN holiday scratch off giveaway contest. I have dropped this player at least a hundred times, its been stepped on and completely abused over time and still runs like a champ and looks pretty decent too. if you can get your hands on one I would definitely recommend it

Isn't that Sony? Biggest impediment there is price. Otherwise, I probably would try a Sony, but with the likelihood of it getting smashed in the gym, I'm not interested in spending a great deal of money. 🙂

Ditto - use it for running, biking, and all day at work sometimes. The stock headphones didn't fit me very well, though.
 
My Creative Muvo micro battery cover broke. 😛 There's a tiny notch that's about 2mm wide and it broke off so it doesn't stay in place. The battery will stay in place, but the cover doesn't lock anymore. 🙁
 
Any recommendations on headphones, particularly ones that are water resistant? I've been thinking about buying the Oregon Scientific player since it's waterproof as are the headphones. Anything like those out there, which I think are enclosed silicone or something like that?

My phone was $10 from Verizon with a contract. Are you seeing a trend here with pricing...?
 
i have the creative mini muvo (the 1gb version) and I used to really love it but the display is starting to go and I've only had it a few months 🙁

With all the phones coming out with MP3 players like LG's VX9800 you don't even need an MP3 player anymore, you can easily fit 100+ songs for goign to the gym.
