Flash Firmware on Delta DVD 12X (FIXED!)

Has anyone flashed the firmware on the Delta DVD 12X drive successfully? I read that people were flashing the firmware and were getting better performance, but I never got a response on how to exactly flash the firmware.

My current firmware is 1.70, and the instructions on the Delta site say to run the line MTKFLASH n wXXXX_XXX.hex which I have done (substituting the n with 3, because I have my drive on the secondary IDE as master).

In any case, the above command obviously does not work. Any info from anyone who has flashed this before would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

are you doing this in pure dos or in windows??
be aware that if things go wrong during the flash, your drive can be completely hosed & unusable!

doing it in pure dos, booting to the windows startup disk and then running the program off of another disk. Yeah, but I still have 1 week before I have to return the drive for a refund if I screw things up.

<< booting to the windows startup disk and then running the program off of another disk. >>

that sounds like your problem. the bootable floppy you need is different to the startup floppy(which has autoexec.bat & config.sys)!
if you're using win98, start/programs/MS dos prompt & type format A:/s. this will produce your bootable floppy. put your flasher & firmware on the same floppy & flash! remove any disk that may be in the drive before you flash.
if you're not using win 98 the you should be able to get a bootable floppy from here.
good luck :) [

I don't think that's my problem, it's just I don't know what command to put in to correctly flash the firmware. The instructions say to do MTKFLASH n wXXXX_XXX.hex and to replace "n" with either 1,2,3,4 depending on the drive configuration (I put in 3 because my drive is the secondary master). When I type this in, it comes up with a list of commands (can't list them cause I'm at work and can't attempt the flash from here), and it just seems that I'm not inputting the commands right, that's all. It's also very unclear what commands to enter from what they list, which was why I was asking for help.

So, from this information, do I still need to make the bootable floppy, and if so, would it work right then?

Ok thanks, I'll give it a whirl when I get home from work! If it doesn't work I'm sure I'll be posting here again :)

Thanks for the help.
