The past few days I have been wondering what I can do to my Hd 2900 Pro.Here is a Screenshot of the default clocks of the card as I was doing some over clocking tests to the CPU at an earlier date. I use this machine a lot as my second rig and It does many things as well as F@H. The main reason for this post is for some that have this older card, can get more out of it and get complete information on what to do from 1 thread rather that trying to look everywhere for unfinished information as I had to do.
So, to start, Ati Catalyst control center, Ati Tool and rivatuner did not help in any way. I had to flash the bios. This card is not the 512 bus width. It is the 256 version. Which made it a bit more difficult to do until I found some tools to complete my quest. First I found Radeon Bios editor, used my GPU-Z to save my Original bios (a must ). Opened up the bios editor and loaded the Original Bios that came with the card and entered the Clock settings section to make some moderate changes and saved to a Boot disk along making a copy to my Hd. Here is the results of many tests to get to this piont.
To make it very easy to do the flash, I used ATi flash, installed it to a boot disk, Copied the new bios that I saved and renamed within the bios editor program, along with the original bios. To use the ATiflash program, here is a helpful Guide to help you make it quick and easy. You may have to flash several times to get to your goal as changing the voltages is what its all about. So, that's it. I have increased my clocks to a comfortable level with this card, temps are pretty good and i am happy it all worked out. Here is a Screenie of it working at these specs.
I hope this helps out some of you that have this card. I know it is not the fastest or latest tech but for some it helps out to get everything out of what we got. I use this for F@H and it has increased the PPD from 1190 + to around 1650. Not to bad I would have to say.
