Flash bios messup

I hope someone can help. My daughter has an 18 month old Dell Insipiron 1420. It was experiencing some video related issues so I went to update the video driver and I thought I would update the bios for good measure. During the bios upgrade the laptop lost power and it did not have its battery installed.

Now when it powers up, little if anything happens. The blue light flickers and then nothing. Is there a way to fix this problem without sending the laptop back to Dell. Any idea what it would cost to resolve this issue?

I would appreciate any help you can give me.

When power is lost during a BIOS or firmware update, the device is considered "bricked" or dead. You can try clearing the CMOS, replacing the mobo is more than likely what will fix it. Got any warranty on it?

Contact Dell's tech support. They may not give you free telephone support, but they may have a chat system where they can advise you. They may even be able to refer you to a local authorized tech who can restore your BIOS. Also, check your local area for qualified Dell repair techs.

Good luck. 🙂
