2.2 was supposedly released today for Nexus One users according to Phone Scoop but no one I know with one says they got any OTA indications.

2.2 SDK is officially live.

More news for Android 2.2 Froyo.

Looks like Google just announced they purchased Simplify Media (no wonder the app was pulled) and are going to launch streaming music with new FW.

It's booting on the Eris. Not quite usable yet, but the boot is half the battle.

Exactly.

This was more about the iPhone/Adobe pissing contest. Apple/Adobe are fighting so Flash won't be coming on the iPhone (probably ever), and Adobe/Google are releasing Flash support. That should let everybody know if Jobs was right that Flash should not be adopted on the mobile platform, or if he is just spewing that out of spite for Adobe due to their falling out.

It seems like Adobe has a good bit of coding left if Engadget's hands-on with Flash 10.1 on Froyo is any indication:

We have to say, it's really something to have a mobile browser that doesn't pop up little cubes with question marks all over the web, but we found that rediscovering Flash was much like reuniting with a high school friend; at first you've so much to catch up on, but then you realize how far you've grown apart. Adobe's pre-vetted list of Flash-enabled sites do a good job of showing off the technology, but we still can't help but think the interactive elements still have a lot of catching up to do. As for video, the stream is good quality but gets fairly choppy -- especially when you check out something "not optimized for mobile viewing." Some of the HTML5 footage we've seen via the same device shows up in crisper detail and fluidity. Battery and heat are also of concern: the pre-release beta we have, according to Adobe, lacks hardware acceleration. Ergo, our beloved handset got piping hot after about 30 minutes of heavy video watching, and the battery indicator in the upper right had a sizable dent.

Awesome. Steve Jobs may have single handedly saved Flash from descending into obscurity, you are going to see Google, RIM, etc promoting Flash support on their platforms vs iPhone. Adobe should send Apple a thank you note :)

Was this a surprise to anyone?

How is that different from any other program? Try running software accelerated games or video decoding on a netbook? Going to run choppy and waste battery. Once hardware acceleration is in place, devices that have the right hardware (GPU) will be running Flash efficiently and smoothly. The other ones will run, maybe not so much, but that's what competition is for. Unleashing competitive juices worked wonders for PCs over last 20 years, and will do same for mobile platforms, except those that dumb down their applications to the lowest common denominator.

Today? Where does it say this? I don't see it on the phonescoop site.

I don't know where they got that info but that's almost certainly not the case, or else we'd definitely be hearing a lot more about it by now.

This is from the Android Developers Blog:

As I said at the beginning, Android 2.2 will be here soon, and some devices will get the update in the coming weeks. I invite application developers to download the new SDK and tools and test your applications today.

And according to PC World:

I got an advance look at Google's latest treat for Android phones, Android 2.2 (more deliciously known as Froyo) on the Nexus One. Announced this morning at Google I/O in San Franisco, the update will initially be available to Motorola Droid and Nexus One owners in June.

And as much as I hope we'll see it for the Droid by next month, I'm not holding my breath after the delays of getting 2.1 to the Droid.

A couple of sites including Gizmodo erroneously reported that the N1 was getting FroYo today, so there was some bad info out there. Most sites have now revised their posts but PhoneScoop apparently has not done that yet.

Flash sucks ass on OSX after what a decade plus? Anyone who thinks they magically got their shit together for the Android version is smoking crack. It will work, in the same sense it works on OSX. Expecting it to mimic the PC version is laughable. I've heard about 2 demos of it, one it crashed on the sites they hand picked to showcase it and went on to basically not show shit. And the 2nd showed it playing Farmville, where they had to do a shit load of scrolling around just to see and do anything. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if by version 14 it was still very buggy, slow and overall crappy. I picked up a Moto Droid last week and I won't be installing it, not even to test it out.

Stop writing it as FroYo. Do you guys actually use froyo in daily language? I guess froyo's only really big in CA as it's an Asian thing... kinda like boba? Yeah. Just say froyo. I love Pinkberry btw.
