I asked in the other thread, but no one answered:
What's the point of lighting a shot on fire?

Style.
It does nothing to the drink.
It's a bar/party trick, nothing more. Many flaming shots have just a few milimeters of 151 poured slowly on the top so they can burn for 10 seconds or so before you blow them out to drink.

not true? rofl. it's a chemical reaction making the drink a different taste.

Sorry dude, all you're doing when the 151 burns for 5 seconds is burning off some of the almost pure alcohol. The only difference in the shot you're going to notice is mental, like how the way a food item is packaged makes you think it tastes better (assuming the exact same food in 2 different packaging ways).
Whoever told you that it makes the drink taste different was just messing with you.

That is so damn funny.
The first time I took a Zambuca glass on fire I was taught to put my hand over the glass to put the flame out and then drink the alcohol warm.
So I hesitate, miss, break the glass, set the bar on fire, burn my hand, and as the liquor was pouring down the bar there was literally a waterfall of fire. Was painfull, embaressing, but everyone loved it.
I didn't want to but they made me take another drink until I got it right. I have a semi circle scar on the palm of my hand from it still and it's been 12 years since then.
