My first post, I think its pretty hot.

Circuit City is selling the IOmagic 52x24x52 cdrw for 79.99 - 30mir - 20 mir = 29.99
Office Max has the same burner for 49.98 (after instant rebate)
so here's the math:
CC 79.99
- 33.01 PM 110% w/ OM
- 20 mir
- 30 mir
= you make 3.02
but then minus tax

I tried it and the CSR wouldn't let me because of the rebates, but my friend got it to work right in front of me. Tried it again w/ the same CSR he had, and got rejected again!!! So bitter. Better luck to the rest of you.

I/O Magic 52x24x52 Internal CD-RW Drive. Price shown reflects $30 Instant Rebate. $30 Mfr's Mail-in Rebate. Limit 1.
From the OfficeMax product page
It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers, and special financing.
From the Circuit City PM policy ... note rebates not included in this (which 90% of stores do now anyway) ...

Highly YMMV b/c of this ... get someone that doesn't know whats going on and you got an awesome deal

are IOMagic rebadges? lite-ons? or do they make their own drives?

They are all rebadges, but from various manufacturers.
The I/O Magic DVD burner I bought turned out to be a Phillips. Others received a NEC drive in the same deal.

EDIT: worked!!

one minor glitch: CC advertises the drive at $74.99 - [1.1 * (74.99-49.98)] (or 27.50) = 47.49

less the $20 and $30 MIR = you make $2.51 + your applicable sales tax....

after all's said in done u pay a few bucks for the drive...rebates take up to 10 weeks (dont know how reliable they are and PM credit takes 5-7 business days...

good luck to others

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
i placed the order at CC for $74.99

have had a hell of a time trying to get the PM...i called a local OM and they have a few in stock, fine.

called CSR (1-800-THE-CITY) and the line says they're "closed" (hours are from 9am-8pm, so probably just down for the moment)

called sales, they said PM's have to be done by calling a local store.

called local store, they said they cant do PM until I receive the CD-RW

i'm not givin up though! will let ya guys know how it goes...

got one yesterday for $44.99 out the door. printed out the price from the product page at OM and took with me. strangely enough (not that strange actually consdering how lousy OM B&M operations are), the OM store tag said $79.99. at the pickup in the CC counter, I produced the web page for PM. cute girl at the counter says she gotta verify in stock status and price at OM - thought I had lost it at this point. she calls OM store and gives them the CC product code for it - SIGH !!! - promptly enough, the OM guys say they dont even have a product with that description. so I explain to her saying, tell them its a 52X IO Magic CD Writer and that store codes are different. She does the same and 10 long mins later, the call gets cut. thought cute girl would relent at this point but she was one persistent heck of a girl. she calls again and this time, the store guys confirm price of $79.99. so cute girl says no PM. I say call OM online - their prices are the same in store and they must not have updated the $30 instant rebate in store. And in any case, I said, I purchased at CC online and you obviously must match OM online as both of you are online and B&M competitors with identical shipping policies. Cute girl relents but says she cannot give the manufacturer rebates as IR. I said "dont bother, I dont depend upon manufacturer rebates - just gimme the IR and I'll be on my merry way". She kinda feels satisfied that she still had it her way partially and at $44.99 out the door, I was a happy camper.

Benq does suck, unfortunately. A 48x from them would only burn 24x or lower.

Rebates: sorry but I have pretty bad things to say about I/O Magic Rebates. If any of them are by the manufacturer and not Circuit City, then there's a big chance you're not getting them back.

I got an IOMagic PCPvr (tv tuner/ TiVo type card). It involved a $20 rebate from them. After the time frame, I waited a few more days, checked the rebate tracking site, and no rebate was listed. I sent them an email asking about it, and TWO months later, they sent an email back.

The email asked me to resubmit with anything that would help with the rebate: page 7 of the manual, copy of UPC, copy of receipt, etc.

Still waiting on the rebate.
BTW a friend who bought the item had the exact same sequence of events happen on him.

BTW2, I read from others that Hival/IOMagic rebates suck too.

Just a heads up on their rebates... but agian, if these are CC rebates, go for it.

Sorry if this isn't the place for this but.....

If anyone still has a copy of the rebate form for the MFR, could you please PM it to me? They're asking for a resubmission and I stupidly forgot to keep a copy of it, all I have is the UPC and receipt.

Thanks
