It's funny that this is posted. I thought this was so YMMV, I didn't bother posting it.

edit: Going to keep it, I think...

If there is no interest, its off to ebay...

Only 2 have sold recently on ebay, both at $200, so you might want to just return yours if you paid $200 -- easier and cheaper than selling on ebay. Or go back and get a price match for the reduced price, and THEN sell it on ebay...

Got one in Norwalk,CT. Except that the sales guy decided to charge me only 79.99 and then 21.99 for a two year warranty. Guess he still makes a commis on the warranty.

They had another one that sold 5 mins. before I got there so I did get lucky. Hello to the other anandtecher in Norwalk!

I had no idea what I was going to do with this until I read the book, now I have plenty of ideas! A server that will do everything I could ever want at home for $99 bucks! Very sweet indeed.

LOL, I read about these a while ago on linux-hacker and blew them off but when they hit this forum for some reason I RUN out and grab the last one in my store (maybe in all of CT according to the manager). He knocked $20 off ($79) bec I bought the two year warranty for $59 and it was open box no accessories or manuals.

Thx for the post

I got the last 2 @ Santa Clara, CA. Thanks to Xeon for the post.

I had called and the CompUSA sales dweeb seemed really interested in knowing what it was given the markdown, I just told him it was a module and not an actual server- It seemed pretty clear he was potentially interested in getting one himself. Got to the store about 1/2 hour later and they found two on the floor for me. Tried to sell me the obligitory $59 service contract on it, I passed. He then photocopied my receipt, ostensibly to call other Cusa's so he could get himself one.

I have a deep, deep hatred for CompUSA. Kudos to the only deal I ever felt good about coming out of there! :)

a little more $$ but available HERE too

If anyone scored a higher end model maybe an iso image would be nice to restore to the other units...?

Ok I just set a world record for ripping something apart straight out of the box. It's effectively just a small form factor PC. Good price given the components:

Intel 810e Chipset, "Sahara 3810" motherboard
On board ATI RAGE video
2 pci slots on riser, 2 DIMM slots
20gb WD HD
64mb micron PC 133 DIMM
Celeron 667 w/ passive heat sink
10/100 PCI NIC card
Onboard 10/100
Crystal audio sound
Dual USB
Delta 90W power supply w/60mm fan

Edited:

Actually, this is the exact unit with a different bezel + color change.

I already ripped mine apart.. if you can tell me the brand of that LCD, I'll be impressed :)

the GW700 and 500 are identical, but the modules for NAS and firewall are unlocked (and a few other things). They want $500 to take the 500 to the 700 features :/ uhhhh, yeah.... its on their site.

Anyone gonan try and put windoze on this ? I was thinking of it as a starter pc for someone... but it looks like you'll need some USB peripherals to even get going.
