This is my first time trying this $hit out so help me a little here :)

Well i was looking for speakers and found a good one(and 2nd most expensive) at Staples:
[Altec]ACS56 POWER PLAY 5PC GAMING 35WATT SUBWOOFER/8.75WATT SATELLITE for $152 without tax(look at the reply below for a link)
i went to pricewatch.com and searched and got a better deal for $110(free shipping) @ pcnation.com
so here it goes
staples price: $152(free shipping for$50+ i think)
pricematch the price :$110(free shipping)
the 30 off 100 coupon :-30
-------------------------------
$80 + tax!!

UPDATE- found another price @pricegrabber(thanx ETLA) but its the same thing...
staples price: $152(free shipping for $50+ i think)
pricegrabber-$94+shipping(+$13)= $107 <--(u guys know that staples adds shipping to PM right?)
coupon -30
so
--------------------
$77+tax
wait!
the problem for the updated price is that the product is white box and i don't think the CSRs @ staples wont accept cuz its white box and supposed to be cheaper than retail.Or do they???
so better not use the updated one. just use the original method:(

wait!
for the original price,
1)i dunno how much u have to pay for tax so add the tax. "i don't live in us...
Considering tax isnt a huge amount this is in fact i think a very GOOD deal!!

neat huh?
It took me bout 15 minutes, so my lesson was that its really easy to take advandtage of PM!
I encourage all u guys to go out and search a little, then you'll get a very good deal on almost anything u want to!!

the site i went to was called
pcnation.com
its kinda hard to find the speaker, so just go to search and search "ACS56 POWER PLAY 5PC" then ull get it
UPDATE-
the site ETLA helped me on the bottom is from pricegrabber search and its called
emscomputing.com but as u have read on the top, it turns out the same thing, plus its a white box version so not so good :(

well i dont live in US, so too bad for me that i can;t take advatage of this deal. I was just tryinf for fun, and i scooped up a deal :)
what do u guys think?

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS REVIEW:
We have seen over the past months that there is no speaker system that will please everyone. For those that demand excellent quality and are prepared to pay several hundred dollars then there are options like the ProMedia and Crossfire that are likely to please more people. Looking at the ACS56, the short comings shared with most other multimedia speaker systems are the lack of a headphone output and no rear speaker stands. If those aren¡¯t show stoppers for you then what you will get from the ACS56 is a wide range of controls including master and surround volume, treble and bass control. You will also get a SPDIF input to go along with the front and rear stereo analog inputs. When it comes to what matters the most, sound quality, the ACS56 again doesn't disappoint delivering good quality for music and a great sound experience for your movies and games, especially when it comes to the bass heavy sound effects. Where the ACS56 may impress and surprise people the most is that despite it's specs of just 70 Watts RMS is it produces this great sound quality at almost ProMedia volume! In other words, the ACS56 can produce volumes loud enough to please almost anyone and it does this for a suggested retail price of just $150 and street prices as low as $110-120! Thanks to its¡¯ great sound quality at very loud volumes, its range of controls and its low price point, the ACS56 receives our 3DsoundSurge Surge of Approval together with our new Silver Medal of Excellence award.

ITS reviewed as awesome for a low price by 3dsoundsurge.com!!!!!! with silver medal of excellence award!!
this should be very good as the review says...

I got these (mine are the ACS-56x), and they are not too bad. The beggest plus about these speakers is that they are LOUD! The sub doesn't bottom out too easily, and the mids and highs rearely distort at high vlume.

The audio quality is not the best, though. The mids and highs seem a little flat too me. The bass is also a bit too heavy. It is like the sub is not properly matched to the satellites.

The bottom line is that they are a good deal for $80. Just don't expect $150 speakers. Expect really nice $80 speakers.

edit: these are 4.0 channel digital. There is no center channel. The sub also uses a crossover, not an LFE.

Are these 5.1?

Also, what's the cheapest way to set up 5.1 speakers with a DIN (besides getting a receiver) so I can take advantage of my X-Gamer's digital out?

Does this:

<<
S/PDIF input for PCM digital audio playback for games and stereo
Digital control for master, surround, bass and treble levels with LED display
>>

imply that I can hook them up through my digital out (S/PDIF)?

Yes, you can hook up the speakers to the SPDIF out on the Live!, but only the front stereo channels are sent out. (unless you are playing a dolby digital movie, then it has the option to send out a digital AC-3 signal- but these speakers don't come with a dolby dig decoder, so that doesn't matter)

gfgray - Are you saying that if I use the digital connection, only the front 2 speakers and subwoofer will output sound, and if I use the analog connection, all the speakers will be used?

With the digital out you will get sound from all the speakers. Your sound card will have a provision for using the digital out and making sure that all speakers are active when you are ONLY using the digital out. I use this with my AOpen AW744Pro card and I get sound from all channels using the digital out.

The ACS56 speakers sound awesome for the price. I bought the lower model for my girlfriend (I use a receiver and home theatre system for my setup) of basically the same speakers, the ACS54's and they were the only set under $100 that sounded GOOD by and stretch of the word, of the speakers on display at Bestbuy. If you buy these, or the ACS54's, you'll be more than happy with the money you spent. I've NEVER liked Altec Lansing's products, but these speakers are a great value.
