flame bait

Well the second supposed realese date is comming soon (22nd) anyone else excited and hoping they are not a ponzi scheme by stealing all the European pre-purchase money?

I could be a few days off, gave up following it so it could be the 25th. For some reason I am still excited about it, I guess it could be the hope it brings a decent MMO that is hardcore. Hopefully it will be more like EQ1 than Age of Conan pvp servers with a bunch of people randomly killing people.

every video ive been able to see before its taken down makes this game look rediculously dated. I would have been a hit when UO was still in its prime and EQ1 was first starting out but now a days theres just so much better stuff out there. From what I can tell this is basically just Shadowbane 2 which would have been nice many many years ago. But thats just me.

I think a lot is due to the games very long development cycle, I believe its going on 8 years now. Granted some will argue that they are willing to sacrifice AoC level graphics for a game that actually delivers on actual large scale PVP battles.

Personally I find FFA PVP to be a dated concept in today's MMO world, which is an unfortunate consequence in the post WoW MMO world. Even if this game gets the release it wants its still going to be a very low pop niche game and will most likely suffer the same fate of other such niche games.

If they deliver on the 10k players per server without horrible lag, then one is all I need. I personally will only play for the FFA PVP as I only like MMO's that have warfare (EvE & PotBS). What I hate the most is grinding, if its work & not fun I'll go play something else.

But really, with all this game has promised I have no idea how it'll turn out. All I know is I shall attempt to wipe out everything with pointy ears.

I hate to agree with this but I do. I see Darkfall less as an innovative product and more as a return to the "good old days" of MMO gameplay where you were given a sandbox rather than a linear questing path to grind out.

The problem with this is that people have come to expect the linear questing path as well as many of the modern niceties of PvP such as not getting ganked in a town, or attacked by your own faction or attacked if you have PvP turned off, etc. This could be the best possible 2002 MMO and I still think it would have trouble getting subscriptions in 2009.

Exactly. Now I am sure there are quite a few players out there who very much look forward to a game that will bring back the "good old days," however the question will be is there enough of them to keep it up and running. One thing Darkfall does have in its favor as far as this goes is that despite its very long development cycle it hasn't really spent all that much money when you compare it to some of the recent "blockbuster" MMOs, so they don't have as much to make back.

Of course as potential customers the question for us isn't whether they will make back their money, but whether the userbase will be sufficient to warrant an investment. The best gameplay in the world won't matter if it flops commercially like Tabula Rasa, Motor City Online, Dark and Light, Pirates of the Burning Sea, Vanguard, Auto Assault, and probably a dozen more I can't think of at the moment.
