Flakey DSL Connection

Recently my DSL connection has been giving me major problems. I'm using Pacbell DSL c/o SBC communications in California if that matters. Periodically while I'm browsing the web or checking e-mail, the connection will all of a sudden stop working. Sometimes it works great, other times, it won't connect to anything at all. If I reboot my computer it sometimes fixes the problem, but after a few minutes will just stop again.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this? I've checked everything on my network and can't see any problems with it at all. I'm inclined to think that it's my ISP that's the problem but they insist that their service is working fine.

Thanks,
Marlin Liew

You know, I am having that very same problem with my DSL. I am running a Cisco675 router and using Quest for the Line and azstarnet.com for my ISP. My protocol is bridged ethernet from the ISP. So far I have reprogrammed the router a number of times. I've even gone as far as to flash the CBOS. Reloaded the NIC drivers, even changed NIC's. Everything short of nuking my system and doing a complete rebuild. Upon running winipcfg, it shows my gateway dropping after about an hour or so. I pay extra to have a 24/7 unrestricted line. I can't figure this out either. Sometimes I can just renew all in winipcfg. Other times I'm able to reboot the router using HyperTerminal, but if all else fails, I just simply reboot the machine.

I'm thinking of switching ISP's.:|
