"Flagship killer" vs lightly used S7 Edge?

Is there any point in going with something like OP3, Axon7 or Honor 8, when a lightly used S7 Edge can be had for the same money?

Looking for a large screened OLED with good camera and decent multitasking capabilities. Will probably keep for ~2y, possibly more.

Disregarding the OS aesthetics, other than some speed, is there any possible advantage something like OP3 has over S7 Edge?

Also, how is warranty in EU for OP3 or ZTE Axon7, anybody knows? This more than anything points for me to go with brand name.

I've "been on the market" for months now, but since I was on WP for the last 6 years, it's very hard for me to make a decision. I was even considering importing some Xiaomis or Huaweis (Note 8 is only sold in China, P9 Plus way to expensive), but again, warranty, not sure how this works in EU..

I would definitely go the flagship killer route. I bought an Axon 7 and am very happy with it. I'm in the US though and can't speak to EU compatibility or warranty.

My girlfriend has an S7 edge and loves it. And say whatever you want about Samsung's latest issues, if it breaks within the warranty period I know it'll be dealt with in a timely manner.

The same can't be said for Random Chinese Company #8 that no one's ever heard of.

As long as you're OK with a used phone (mint on Swappa tend to be pretty good) and not being able to use a glass screen protector, I don't see how this is even a competition.

Better screen, more compact, much better battery life, better camera, probably better resale value.

The S7 is the better phone. If the prices are comparable, get the better phone.

The main appeal of the kinda-sorta off-brand Chinese makes is much much cheaper than the flagships they supposedly kill.

Price being similar... S7 all the way.

I have both the 6 Edge Plus (last year's) and the Honor 8. I have had the Honor 8 only for a few days, and it is a darn impressive phone in many ways. I may post a short first impression of it when I get a chance. But for the OP's query I would say that It falls a bit short in killing the actual flagships.

Considering that OP3 is 400€, Axon 7 is 450€ (and warranty in EU is very sketchy), and I can get S7 Edge in perfect condition lightly used 3mo for ~450€, I'll just go for that.
Only possible problem is 32GB ROM, but I hope I can live with that + SD, not a very heavy app user.

I hate the idea of putting in into a condom, but it does look so fragile with all that glass..

I read in review after review how slippery glass-bodied phones are, but I find them to be more secure to hold (than brushed metal body phones) due to the moisture residing on the palms all the time. It is really not difficult to test it out yourself so I kind of wonder if the reviewers are not human beings.

But yeah glass phones will be more prone to damage when dropped.

Yeah, it's not so much about being slippery (OP3 is said to be very slippery), but metal will dent, glass will break, when it eventually does drop on the concrete.

I am currently in favour of OP3 after all, since I handled GS7E, and that glass back.. Looks awesome, feels awesome in hand, allows wireless charging, but.. I'd be scared all the time to take and hold it.



I really wish there was someone who would do "high quality plastics" these days, ala 920. That was one of a kind design

Apart from being a little sensitive, S7 edge is definitely a better option (even if slightly used) than other options for me though!

I have an LG Optimus G (eg. Google Nexus 4) for about 2.5 years. it's also a glas phone. i have dropped it multiple times even on ceramic kitchen floor. No a single crack in the glas and in fact it still looks almost new. So if done right, it's a none issue especially compared to iPhones...

I'm considering similar thing, normal s7 or honor 8 or mi5? An imported mi5 is $200 less than a 32 gb S7.

I am partial to glass phones personally. iPhone 4/4s, Nexus 4, Xperia Z Ultra, Fire Phone, GS 6, GS 6 Edge+, and now Honor 8.. all my daily drivers have been glass-bodied! No cracks to their bodies although I have had a couple of cracks on glass screen protectors. Now I use phones without case because I feel like life is too short and I want to enjoy the phones that are increasingly built like "jewelry" in their full glory.

I went the used S7 route, just wasn't worth losing features or specs when I know the refurb would be almost new. Plus, its not like phones stay 'mint' very long, so I have no problem getting manufacturer refurbs.

I have to say the Kirin 950 in the Honor 8 is an incredible SOC. Nimble and frugal. Color me impressed.
