Or you could just use *gasp* Apple Lossless Compression.
But of course iTunes itself won't handle the conversion from FLAC, you have to convert to WAV first and lose your tagging information.

Curse you Steve Jobs!!!!! ;)
dont use itunes
I didn't see anything in the Hydrogen Audio "lossless" forum on how to get to Apple's proprietary lossless without iTunes -- is there a way yet?

It's a serious question, I am thinking of joining the cult of iPod soon :)

you missed it,

you started off saying "Only reason to convert a FLAC to MP3 is because Steve Jobs is a FLAC hater. Curse you Steve Jobs!!!!!"

which i took as you use flac and dont like that you cant use a IPOD with it, i said "dont get an ipod" and thefore you wont need to use itunes or convert your FLAC files to anything else

get an IRiver or Rio Karma they both support FLAC

and IDK of anything other the crap itunes that plays ACC

ah, makes sense. Guess I'm slow like Homer tonight :)

I looked at the Rio and a lot people on Amazon were complaining about the hard drive failing on them both during and just after the warranty period, which scared me away.

I'll look into the iRiver, thanks for the pointer.

on average, my music seems to be slightly below the 50% mark. unless you have absolutely crappy gear, you should be using FLAC with ample hdd space nowadays. heck, it makes very noticeable difference even on my 'multimedia' s2 4100s. not to mention on headphones, its literlly a night and day difference.
