Pardon my ignorance here, but I am having the same issue. I have a 2.8 Pent IV and 1 Gig RAM. At the beginning of a round on a new map (including the first one), I get about 1 minute of lag. It happens every time the HD light blinks. I have disabled the page file - should this help or hurt? What else should I do (don't have the cash for 2 gigs - would have to start over as the slots are full)?

don't disable the pagefile. look at my rig in sig about bf2 ram usage to help with settings. also, what video card are you using?

last, are you talking about when the map is loading and says "verifying client data" that you are experiencing this issue or when the game actually starts?

Or stick to playing on 32 player or less servers. Anything higher, and you definately need 2GBs of ram.

Thx for quick reply Bob. I can't seem to access that BF 2 Ram Usage site, but work may be blocking it. I'm using a Radeon 9800 non-pro.

I'm talking about the time right after I enter a round on a new map. The lagging during the first minute or two directly corresponds to blinking of the HD light. I've read to change my page file size to 2560 and assign it on a different HD in my system, so I plan to try that tonight.

I've also read that disabling the page executive really doesn't do anything with some programs. So I will tweak my registry back when I get home.

for that page, since it is run out of my home i had to use a non-standard port because my isp blocks port 80, so that could be causing you the issue. i did run some tests with pagefiles and found that leaving them to auto and having them on all your hdds made the best positive impact on performance. what does your computer idle at ram wise? i wouldn't turn it off because you are obviously hiting it, what do you think will happen? i have never done it but would think if the machine ran out of ram and it coudn't write the data anywhere else, it might crash because it might try to overwrite ram that is currently being used.

Check system useage in Task Manager and adjust game settings and/or trim Windows processes as necessary. Consider a game profile with less background crap. Set the pagefile to an equal min/max and defrag so that any minor paging will have negligible effect. Given 256MB VRAM, 1GB system RAM should be 'nuff with a mix of high and medium settings at 1280x960. The only killjoy is a Texture setting higher than medium.

Evga 7800gt co

now when i go to play bf2 i get this un speakable ammounts of what i think is video lag and this happens at the begining of every round when i first pick my kit and start to walk around it is way to intense for me to handle so i just prone somewhere and wait for it to warm up or something and after about 30sec-1min it is fine and than after that its just minor lag when punkbuster checks ur internet connection and stuff which i know how to fix but is there anyway around the begining round lag?

ram, I have a similar system, same video card, I went from 1gb to 1.5gb and saw a huge diffrence.
