I was trying to install linux on a blank HD and custom partitioned it with a boot partition in which to install LILO as I didn't want to put it in the MBR. Unfortunately I made this partition start at cylinder 0 and made it 4MB. Having got into Linux then shut down I found that I cannot reboot as the HD is not detected during POST.
I am assuming that I have wiped the MBR as if I try to install an OS from a bootable cd it finds the HD to install on and can create partitions within it but still fails to detect it t startup and then boot from cd again and you get stuck in a circle. Any ides how or where I cn find the solution to this. Does norton utilities have the facility to repair this or I remember reading somewhere a while back that this can be sorted with a hex-edit. Any help would be great.
