Fixing my speakers...

I have a problem with my speakers (cheap 'ol $10 speakers)...

1. The power doesnt stay on unless you find some position to wiggle the power wire into (the actual adapter is fine).
2. The 2nd speaker doesnt work all the time.

I opened up the main speaker, but there are no apparent shortages in the wires or anything out of the ordinary. How might I go about fixing this problem?

I'd open it and make sure the wire is making contact (a little shoving and electrical tape), although I'd probably just get new speakers. The Labtec Spin 70s are nice little 2 piece speakers. Dell has them and if you wait for a 20% off + free shipping deal, you can get them for around $20 shipped. I got the Harman/Kardon HK19.5 at AC Micro for $19 shipped. The HK19.5s are pretty good but the left speaker dies out when you lower the volume too much.

also check where they plug into the soundcard...those 1/8 inch stereo connectors are notorious for making your speakers mono if you wiggle it around.

<< You get what you pay for. >>

Well considering they cost $10 CDN new, and I bought them 4 years ago, I'd say I got a pretty good deal.

I'd say so as well.

If youre going to buy cheap speakers, I say go out and hunt down a pair of cambridge soundworks/creative PC works speakers. Prob can find a used set for $30, and they sound great.

Most likely the problem is a broken wire in the power cord. I'll say dump them and get a new set. Price has never been lower.
