fixing boot selector screen

I installed XP on my second hard drive for another purpose, but no longer have that drive. But I still get a selector screen that asks me which one I want to go into. That wouldn't matter, but it defaults to the OS that is no longer there. How can I edit that screen to delete the second installation? Or make it as if it was never there?

Please help thanks!

Cool, thanks for the info, I see how I can move one installation up, but how can i get into the file to edit it? As in to change the timeout to 5 or 10 seconds, or remove one all together?

Or can you tell me exactly what it should read for a normal XP boot without the selector at all (maybe copy from your boot.ini if it would be the same)?

and thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just use Notepad to edit the file and delete the entry you don't want. My boot.ini reads:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

boot.ini is on C (same partitoin with Windows on it).

You need to change the default folder options to show hidden files.
Open "My Computer" and click on "Tools" and "Folder Options".
Select the "View" tab.
Select "Show hidden files and folders" and apply.
