Hi

Long story short, a leaking washing machine hose caused a short that caused my monitor to make a loud popping noise whenever it is powered. A google search suggested looking at the caps and replacing whatever is blown.

I am not very experienced with this sort of thing but happy to give it a go if there is some chance of success. The issue is, none of the caps seem to be discoloured or to be bulging. Are there other things I should be looking for? Is it possible the popping it caused by something else?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have 2 QX 2710 Displays - Still a great old monitor with a 60 Hz Samsung PLS/IPS Screen - Fantastic color but somewhat slow by to days standards. Samsung PLS/IPS and LG AH/IPS are not known to be fast displays where as AUO AHVA/IPS screens appears to have mastered fast IPS screens. I'm not saying that LG AH/IPS does not have great color as it certainly has but is not as fast as the AUO screen.

I had one QX 2710 fail and removed the PCB (Relatively Easy) and mailed it to a reputable Electronic Repair Shop - Cost me approx $100 including shipping. In my case the n570 Mosfet in the Wheatstone Bridge burnt out.

Definitely would repair these monitors providing the Screen is still good.

A great replacement display would be the 165Hz AHVA/IPS Mbest MB279QR144 QHD which I also have and love it.

PS: Don't even try to find a QX 2710 PCB - They DO NOT exist.

Good Luck

Are these screens still available? I bought 2 as well a couple of years ago and they're still holding up rather well and I run mine 94hz, no issues. Speakers might be the worst I've ever heard but you don't buy them for sound anyway. I'd be interested in repair information as well, should I experience something a bit further down the road.

I believe Samsung has abandoned their PLS/IPS line in favor of Quantum Dot for larger displays but think they still use PLS/IPS for Tablets and Phones with small screens .

Yes you can overclock the early QNIX 2710 with DVI Port only to as high a 120Hz but reports are that the PLS Screen really isn't fast enough and stacks frames but a 75 to 90 Hz was somewhat reasonable.

Of course prolong OC'g can cause heat and invite failure in the PCB's Voltage Rectifying Circuit which seems to be the major fudd of the QX2710 but can be repaired by any reputable Electronic repair shop for a reasonable price. As I said you will NEVER find a QX 2710 PCB. I considered fitting a small fan over the Mosfets to keep them cooler.

The fastest IPS screen is the AUO AHVA (Not to be confused with VA). After getting my 1st 2560x1440 QX 2570 Samsung PLS/IPS QHD display, I will never go back to either VA or TN panels.

I still use the QX 2710 for color editing or setting up other displays and comparing to the QX - PLS color which is really that good.

For gaming I use the 27" Mbest 2560x1440 QHD 48 to 165Hz Freesync AUO AHVA monitor - This a great all around monitor with RGB almost as good as PLS but a much faster display. $300 USD from South Korea - Dreamseller. Get one now before they go Doo-Doo like the QX 2710.

The Japanese PIXIO 277 with a few more extras like PIP ... etc for around a $130 more also uses the AUO AHVA screen and becoming very popular among Gamers.

In my opinion curved screens are a hindrance for any 32" display and smaller.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. I guess I will have a look online during the Black Friday sales and if I don't see anything good, find somewhere to get the screen fixed. I am down to a single monitor at the moment and keep glancing to where the second one should be.

It's a shame as the monitor was still working out awesomely. I don't play any FPS, so the 2k resolution and picture quality is perfect for slower moving strategy games and means I don't need to spend a fortune on a GPU that can drive a 4k display.

The Korean PRISM M270EQ HDR Samsung Panel 2560x1440 FreeSync 27 @ $350 USD
is very much like the old QX 2710 with a Samsung PLS-IPS screen, 50 to 60Hz Freesink range. OC'd might get over 75 Hz.

Samsung PLS-IPS screens have fantastic colour detail but not near the speed range of an AUO AHVA-IPS screen with slighty inferior color detail.
