so i got a craftsman 3ton jack lift a while back(warranty expired). no matter how slow i turn the release knob the jack just drops in an instant.

is there an easy fix for it?

As you unscrew it, are you pushing in on the knob? I've noticed on the ones I've used if you are pushing inward against the screw you're actually closing the valve some. Then when you release pressure it pops out and the floor jack will start dropping faster than you thought. If it just shoots right down as soon as you start to loosen the screw though something is wrong with the jack. These aren't covered under Craftsmen's lifetime warranty?

Does it jack up okay? If it takes more than a normal amount of pumps to fully extend, you are probably low on oil.

No. the only tools that have a lifetime warranty are hand tools. IIRC.

Unscrew the turn knob, there is a rubber o-ring at the bottom which is probably all worn out. Replace it and enjoy your jack for a while (I am very happy with my Harbor Freight special - it has been 8 years now).

No matter how good your lift jack is, always put something else under your car (stand jacks, tires etc.)

correct.

The jack more than liekly would need the valve modified. Or the cam that is turned from the handle is the incorrect ratio for you.

AFAIK all Craftsman has lifetime warranty, I have not seen anything that does have lifetime on it from Craftsman 😕 😕

The warranty is one year, according to the Sears web site.

This is the case for most Craftsman tools.

Only certain hand tools have the lifetime warranty.
