Call me a rookie, but this is strange.

Running Windows XP HOME SP1

I recently go to the Windows update screen and it tells me I have services disabled, can not check the system etc...(Automatic update and a network tranfer service<Do not remeber exact name>) I start both services and set them up as they instriced me to .

I start the services and it says SP2 is now available to download, I click yes.

Now for 4 days straight when I boot up the globe is on the bottom right and just sits at "Downloading 0%"

Any ideas?

Looks like it is stuck. I've seen this happen before but it normally clears itself and start over. Also did you turn of QoS?

Quality of Service. Basically it's priority on packets being sent out.

There are quite a few guides out that say to remove this from the NIC because it lowers your total bandwith. I've seen that removing this can cause problems with Windows Update if you are constantly downloading or streaming something.

Thx Mike..I will give it a shot tonight when I get home from work.

I will report back..I am correct in saying that SP2 is available for XP Home OS right?

OK The QoS is set to Manual..

UPDATE..When I booted up it finally asked me if I wanted to install SP2..I did and everything appear to be working..

Simple question though.

I use a wireless router to connect my PC...Cable Modem to Router to PC.

Do I really need to run the Win XP Home SP2 Firewall?
