*FIXED* This ABIT NF7-S Has Let Me Down For the 5th Time!

I think my board has just gone defective again, for the 5th time! I use the onboard audio and I usually use digital, but I turn on analog every now and then for my headphones. The left channel would be very soft, barely audible. Though if I adjust the volume, the left channel would turn back to normal at certain loudness settings, and after a while, it would be normal.

Now today it doesn't work at all anymore. Anyone know a solution to this? It seems like a hardware problem to me, as it has always worked before. I really don't want to walk into mwave for the 5th time to RMA this board!!! READ BOTTOM POST, FIXED! :)

How could I possibly test to see if my PSU is flakey? It seems to be working perfectly fine.

Good point. I own an NF7-S Revision 2 board, and I know MANY people that do and enjoy them. I highly doubt Abit will consistently send a defective motherboard.

To test the PSU, use a digital multimeter and test each of the connectors by sticking the appropriate black and red parts of the multimeter into the square holes. I have no time to say exactly, but I know there are others here that have done that and perhaps they can help you with that. However, if you don't have a multimeter and have never used one, then perhaps you can find someone near you that knows and would help you test it.

If the Enermax PSU is weak, that is the first i've seen. That doesn't mean that it isn't possible, of course. I think one of your first mistakes is using the onboard audio in general. The quality is just fine, but the drivers are HORRIBLE for SoundStorm. Just go on nForcershq's forums and look at the headaches people have had with those drivers :). Also, you may actually want to try using one of their mixed drivers as well, such as ones by 'Matrix', a forum moderator. They usually have new, unreleased audio drivers leaked by Abit and others in a mixed-driver package. I used to have problems with poor quality when using headphones, but it went away with those drivers. Of course, the brightest thing I did was buy a sound card again. So, now I have an Audigy2 in here again :).

I have tried various drivers. I found 2.45 to be the most stable, 3.13 has given me many BSoD. But I don't think this is a driver problem, since it has been working fine for a year on these drivers, and this just suddenly happened. This also never happened on my last 4 boards. BTW if it is my power supply, please explain why any of my other hardware aren't dying.

perhaps its your headphones... and seriously you are probably breaking something on the board... what has gone wrong with the board other than that?

OK I found out the problem. Turns out that this jumper required for the left channel to work has come loose. I plugged it back in and it's working fine now. Thanks everyone for the advice, I guess I'm fine with abit now again.

1st board a small chip or something burned out on the mobo, causing the sound to stop working
2nd board I returned because it wouldn't hit 200FSB
3nd board worked fine for a long time, but for some reason, it wouldn't turn on one day after I didn't use it for a week.
4th board, I'm using now
So I guess that was 4 not 5

2nd board shouldn't even count, unless that particular revision was supposed to do 200.
