[Fixed] -- Lexmark 5700 printer woes -- help me improve print quality

I've tried all the usual stuff (align cartridges, clean nozzles, fresh ink) but my printer is not printing well in black, leaving white horizantal streaks where the black ink is not printing. I'm guessing something is clogged. The clean nozzle test is supposed to give black stripes three "lines" tall then red, blue, and yellow. The color prints fine, but the black prints the top and bottom stripe, but virtually none of the middle one and does the same when printing text. What else can I do?

[Edit: fixed via trial and error and a new cartridge.]

RossGR> I just got an HP delivered today. I can't wait to test it out :) I used to be an Epson man but everyone says HP is the best. I got a super deal on a HP Deskjet 840C.
