fixed: how to encrypt Ubuntu 10.10 desktop after install

I've had bad luck installing Ubuntu Server and then putting a desktop on it, so I'm trying to encrypt the system after installing Ubuntu Desktop 10.10. I tried TC, but it doesn't seem to offer the option of system encryption. Any searches I do turn up results for tasks AFTER the system is encrypted...

The system is a laptop used for development, and I have to have it encrypted because it is a laptop, and I work at a place that handles sensitive information.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Helps when you install with the correct CD...

That's going to be difficult because most of the whole filesystem or block device encryption methods require you to create the filesystem after the encrypted device is created.

At home I use cryptsetup on Debian, but again, I created those filesystems after creating the encrypted devices. There are other options like ecryptfs and loop-aes, but I'm 99% sure the same will apply.

Doesn't the installer, or alternate installer, support installation to an encrypted root? I know the Debian installer does, so I figured the Ubuntu alternate installer would since it's basically the same.

I thought it did as well, but I never seen the option. Must have missed it. I will go back over this install one more time, and give it one more try. Will do it after I get done burning this remastersys backup.
