Had no problems before I installed WinXP Pro w/ SP1. So far burned two coasters with Alcohol 120%... CD burns all the way to 100% and I get the "image file loading completed!" message, but the damn thing won't eject and the drive light is flashing on and off. Only way to eject the CDR is to reboot.

My drive is a Lite-on 24x10x40x btw, on secondary IDE channel by itself as SLAVE. System is a XP1700+ with Epox 8RDA+.

Where should I start? I don't even know where to begin... any of you encountered this problem before?

Update. Just installed Fireburner 2.1.7 and burned the same image... SAME PROBLEM!

Thread2: Executing
Thread2: Synchronizing Cache
Recording complete

The drive stalls at the end and green light keeps flashing as if trying to read it :|

Just a quick question - are you telling the program to close the CD?

If you don't 'close' the session most burning software will not allow you to eject the CD-R.

It sounds like (if you are already selecting to close?) the problem is associated with the closing of the session.

If you have the drive on it's own IDE channel with no other drives then set it to master, not slave.

Downloaded ASPIcheck from adaptec, and saw that my ASPI drivers weren't installed correctly... so I downloaded ForceASPI, and am now running ASPI version 4.60 (1021). I also chose "close cd" under fireburner options... but I think I have just burned another coaster!

Going to try setting it to master now.. if that doesnt' work i'll try searching for ver 4.62 layers.

I recently built a new PC for my boss.

When I installed the software and ran the system for the first time there was a great deal of instability - I was not happy with the machine at all. I formatted and reloaded perhaps 3 times overall and each time there was always something quirky.

What caused the problem was the IDE cable. (this was after a lot of head scratching!!)

The only way I could get the system to be installed correctly was by using an ATA 33 IDE cable on the optical drives.

Perhaps try a different cable to see if that is the problem.

Another day.. two more coasters!!

Downloaded ASPI drivers 4.71.2 to no avail... still won't close the CD.

I'll try the cable that came with the Epox mobo, perhaps it's my rounded cables causing problem? But I've been using those cables before and had never had a burner problem like this...

Gonna also try re-intsalling my O/S, either XP Pro (w/o SP1) or make the move back to Win2k...

Will keep updating, I'll probably be back with more coasters :(

Maybe try going back to Win2K.You have your CDROM (Slave) and CD Burner (Master) on one cable in IDE 2?.Its probably a good idea to try different cables as you said.Windows XP has issues with certain burners. You might have to either go back to Win2K or get a different burner.Hopefully you can get it working but once you run out of options there is not much you can do.I have read many problems with certain burners and Windows XP.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest firmware for your CDRW?
Do you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your system?
Any overclocks or background programs running?

Yeah the weird thing was I was using brand new cables - then used a cable that worked fine for me on another pc - still problem - then found and old (new) ATA 33 cable which solved the problem.

I have no idea why these things are so finicky at times.

I've not experienced any trouble personally with burning programs and Win XP - although when using EZCD5 there can be problems if you do not select the actual burner. In Win 9x it seems to do this for you automatically.

It would be a good idea if you have a spare HD (or can partition your HD) to try a different OS. Then see if you have the same problem.

The only other question that remains to be answered or even mentioned - is that I have heard if you are using a "non-licensed" version of Win XP (I'm not saying that you are) upgrading to SP1 will mess up the XP installation.

Whether or not this is actually true I have no idea.

Hallelujah!! I've burned my first NON-coaster last night before bed... o happy day. I ended up leaving it at MASTER on secondary IDE with my rounded cable.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest firmware for your CDRW?

In the end it's a simple a fix as a firmware upgrade... Thanks everyone and especially to BFG for pointing that out :)
