I just upgraded a colleuges systemm.. its got a Maxtor 40 GB Diamond Max Plus drive.
THe motherboard is a ASUS P2B - DS RevL 1004

The drive powers up and is spinning.. but its not detected..
I have it on ATA66 cables.. with the CDRW on the same cable. If I put "NONE" in the bios, the cdrw shows up.. after which it hangs..

COuld it be something to do with the oxygen in there.. with teh geforce gts 2.

did you try plugging the ata cable in the other way for the drive or it looks like you have the maxtor drive set to slave and the cd-rw as master, try switching there ends of the ata66 cable and if that doesnt work try booting up without the cdrw

few questions:
1. how do I know.. if I need to use "Aflash.exe" or "flash.exe" even though I am using a Award bios.
2. Do I have to dig into the motherboard to enable flashing?
3. why does it hang when I have the parameteres set - its hanging before going to check scsi drives.

Go to your motherboard manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

Maxtor's website also has advice about this kind of issue.
