I noticed my monitor started making this "60Hz AC" sound, but the actual phase "tic" is more high pitched then the one of a transformer or something so it's ennoying. But it's actually "ticking" at 60Hz.

Is there a way I can fix that? I have somewhat experience with a solder, not very good at it but I assume this might involve rather large electronics such as a capacitor or transformer so I should be ok. Anyone have an idea what would cause such sound?

And buying a new one is out of the question, way too expensice, can't afford that now. I'm still trying to save up to build a plain server to play around with with Red Hat. Is there a way I can fix this monitor myself? I don't really know much about the internal electronic workings and don't know enough about tubes to fix that part if it's what is causing it, but I have a feeling it's something as simple as a capacitor or something making the noise. It seems to come from the side of the monitor, more at the back.

It's a ProView 17", not sure what model as it's all it says on it.

The monitor I had here before was a brand new Dawoo 17" and it ended up making this high pitched sound very ennoying so I switched it with this one that was on my parant's computer (my parants can't hear it anyway. lol). I'm starting to wonder if it's the video card damaging the monitors, is that possible? Or is it just a coincidence?

Forgot to mention, I am aware of the dangers of the inside of a monitor, If I do open it I'll properly discharge it and let it sit for a few days while switched on (unplugged) and I'll probably "probe" all the capacitors with a light bulb or something to drain any possible current.

Is there a way I can fix it?

I checked and it seems to be coming from a transformer, it was hard to see it but all I did see was a chromish metal "box" but could not see the shape completly, I'm thinking it's probably a transformer and I'm just seeing part of the enclosure.

Another thing, I always turn off my monitor when I leave the room, is this a bad thing? Should I just let it on instead of making it go on and off all the time?

This noise is getting worse and it's driving me insane. It had stopped for a bit but now it's doing it again! I can always put a 120mm fan on it to kill the noise but I still have to endure this 2 weeks as I wait for the fan to come in, so I rather fix the noise rather then cover it.

ok, this is a bad pic, but here is the part causing the problem. It looks like a transformer inside of a blackish box with a heat sink around it, but maybe that blackish box is something other then a transformer. I don't really know that much about monitor internal circuits. Just enough to be told what should be replaced and to try it. The worse thing that can happen is that it does not work, but it's better to at least try then to buy another one right away.

Just bumping because it started doing it again :(

There has to be a way to fix this. Any suggestions? It seems to only do it when it's connected to the computer, as if I switch the KVM switch to something else, it stops. I have a refresh rate of 70Hz. Is there a way to determine if it's too high for this monitor? This monitor comes from a pre built computer system so there's no information on the exact model etc... all I know is that it's made by pro view and it's a 17 inch. But I'm sure proview makes tons of 17 inch monitors so this info would not be enough to find a driver or what not. Maybe that's what the problem is, no driver? (just the "monitor.inf" one)

Anyway to fix that? It's starting to drive me insane. It's doing it louder and louder and no mater what I do to make more noise in my room does not work. Help!

Too bad LCDs are thousands of bucks because I'd get one. CRTs suck. It's the second monitor that I use that causes me problems.
