Five Guys?

Five Guys is pretty much the only fast food that I like. It's godawful for you, but really good comfort food.

Their burgers are excellent. Slightly pricey as far as fast food goes, but superb. Their serving sizes are HUGE, small fries and a single patty is much more then I need. All the 5 Guys I've been to have free peanuts too. Bonus.

Finally went, their burgers suck! Don't know if they do this at all of them, but at the one near me they wrap up every burger in tin foil, even the ones for eat-in.

This is a HUGE NO-NO, as it steams the bun into a mushy consistency, NOT that their buns aren't McDonald's grade to begin with! To recap, they use shitty buns to begin with, then needlessly and stupidly destroy them!

It's the same as with hoagies or cheese steaks, you MUST start with a good roll or you've already failed.

Their fries are decent, quite good actually, but no milk shakes? No self-respecting old time burger place didn't have real milk shakes as a side.

But the main thing is, and it's laughable, is that this is a place that serves nothing but burgers and their burgers are freaking MEDIOCRE at best. 😱

Any independent burger place worth its salt kicks 10 Balls' ass.

Methinks you expected too much. 5 guys is still a franchise, not some privately owned specialty joint. And complaining about wrapping a burger in *gasp* foil? Say it ain't so! 🙄

Five Guys is the taste equivalent of buying low-grade, high fat beef from Wal-Mart and cooking it on a George Foreman grill, and then putting all the grease drippings back on it.

I was amazed to see people happy to see a cook apply pressure while cooking hamburger. Like whoa, isn't that cool? No, it's fucking uncool. It's what a bad cook does to speed up an order. It ruins the fucking beef! Who wants dry beef? Dry beef coming up! Don't worry, we have a concave grill that traps all the grease. So it's got the same amount of fat as a burger cooked correctly, only it's dry because we didn't want to spend more than 30 seconds cooking it. And now we put it on Sam's Club burger rolls.

Skip the fries, they destroy them with salt. Focus on getting an awesome burger and if you are still hungry... get another one...

Thank you for posting this. Saltiest food I ever had. The fries were salt overload.

Note: there is a reason they only put these in yuppie towns

I like Five Guy's burgers.... If I get one, it's usually a little cheeseburger (the normal one has around 60g of fat... almost an entire day's worth) with mayo, pickels, lettuce, tomatoes and grilled onions. Then a regular cajun fry... mmm them cajun fries be good! If you prefer less seasoning, you can simply ask for normal fries and then ask for some cajun seasoning on the side, which means you can season them to your desired amount.

EDIT:

Oh and the easiest way to season the fries yourself is by removing everything but the fries from the bag, pouring the seasoning in and shaking the bag up.

The regular bacon cheeseburger is 62...the cheeseburger is a bit less. Unbelievable though.

Look at the rave reviews even in this thread. What else is one to expect? It's gotta be the most overhyped burger joint in the east!

Wrapping even dine-in orders in foil is pretty goofy and pointless. Was it going to get cold on the five-foot walk to the table?

If I remember correctly when I looked up the info, if you eat the little cheeseburger and regular fries, you've pretty much hit the daily limit of fat and took in about 1500 calories 😛.

EDIT:

I looked it up mostly because I was curious how "bad" their fries were for you. I had no idea if the whole peanut oil thing was just for taste or if it was slightly more nutritious, but I guess it's just as bad. If I had to, I'd just get some of those tasty fries or maybe I can treat myself on a Friday and split them (although eating an entire regular fry isn't exactly hard to do...).

Burgers are good, probably some of the best fast food burgers that I have had. Their seasoned / Cajun fries are rather bland, so be ready to add seasoning / salt to them. They do give you large portions of fries if you order a large.

This. Almost went today, but I was hanging out with a vegetarian and she forced me to go elsehwere. 🙁

Damn, didn't realize this was such a contested issue. I was just wondering if it was worth the 45 minute drive to try em some time. LOL

I guess I will end up doing it some time when I'm in town anyway (being careful to order without any spicy).
