I was just wondering what the proper way is to fit trainers/shoes, I play alot of football (called soccer over there) so they get their fair use of twists and turns. What I'm looking to know, are you meant to allow for that extra half inch from the end of your big toe to the end of the trainer or do you get a pair that fits barely?

The reason I am asking this is because I've read somewhere that it's best to have tight fitted trainers than loose ones... then somewhere else said allow half an inch. I wear tight trainers at the moment for football, but I've been getting a case of shin splints every so often (not sure if its related or not)... however trying on trainers with that extra half inch feels weird.

Thanks.

For soccer shoes I make sure it's a tight fit.. for everything else I allow that extra half inch.

Might go for the tight fit then, it kind of presses against all my toes.
