I am currently building a new PC and was going to buy the Lian Li PC-61 but ran across the topic on the Aspire X-Qpack and thought that would be better for me for college... I was wondering what from my setup below would I have to change out to fit this case, do you recommend the switch, and what would I switch stuff with? If I could get some suggestions tonight Ill order the case tommorow.

You'll definately have to change the motherboard. Foxconn makes a mATX Nforce4 board. The heatsink might be a tight fit, may have to install it after board goes in or may have to offset fan. You may have to replace your NEC DVD burner with a LiteOn or Sony because those are shorter, in order to fit your OCZ power supply.

Consider the Chenming 118 case - same as the X-QPack but has either one window or no window. Personally I like that better (those dang windows are hard to keep clean and scratch-free). You will need a microATX mobo and be sure it has the P4-12V (4-pin square) connector for powering the CPU. Short-chassis optical drives will fit best (but full-length can be squeezed in if you use the original PSU (a bit shorter than standard ATX PSUs - called miniATX in the latest ATX standard). And you may need to choose a more compact HSF for your CPU. The PSU included with the case should be adequate.
. I'd also go for a Samsung or Panasonic floppy over a Sony. Or you might consider the YE Data/Adaptec (sold under both names at Provantage et al.) integrated floppy drive/flash card reader - I'll be getting one of those as soon as I can find some spare money. In that size case making the best use of space is important.

for socket 939 these are matx

S939:
Foxconn NF4 NF4K8MC-ERS
MSI RS480M2
ECS RS480-M V1.0
GA-K8A480M-9 [not available to retail market ]
JetWay A210GDMS-Pro

out of those only one with good overclocking options at this time is the jetway , rumor has it that gigabyte removed the overclocking options , however this may change when its available to retail market

bicen, this case would be awesome for college, Ive had it for a month now, and will always use this case from now on. I had a lian li, which was also awesome, but this one is even nicer, I believe I had a lian li pc-60

Personally I'd get the Lian Li and stick with the good motherboard and stuff. Better hardware, less risk of something not fitting, and I don't think it will make too much of a difference, the Lian Li is pretty small itself.

bicen, the pc-61 is a really nice case, all lian li cases are nice, but if you are looking for a small case with character, get a x-qpack, you will not regret it.

I just had a thought. You were wanting a smaller computer for college? Good idea since dorm room desk space is always at a premium, HOWEVER, the smaller computers are always stolen the most. For instance, laptop computers are always stolen more than towers, probably because they are easier to pick up and walk away. A computer built into an X-Qpack would also be easy to steal.

Solution? Make it a tower and make it REALLY heavy. Use a large steel chassis that uses at least 1mm thickness. Also, get a case with a locking side (and no side window) and then bolt some weights onto the bottom of the case. Make the computer weigh about 200 pounds, and nobody will be stealing it, LOL.

zap is correct, it would be very easy for somebody to steal your computer, especially if you are using a x-qpack, unless you locked it up with one of the security cables, in which you x-pqack would be secured to your computer desk. something like this.

Even as long ago as the mid 60s stuff would walk from your room if you didn't keep your door locked at all times when you are out of it. I had a cool desk fan walk away - luckily I spotted it when walking down the hall on another floor and it "walked" back to my room. I told the guy if I ever heard of his pilfering another guy's stuff again I'd cut his nuts off with a dull saw...

You'll also have to change heatsinks or cut up your case. The XP-90 + fan is too tall to fit into the case.

Anyone know if a Zalman Fanbracket 123 will fit under those cross-braces in the Aspire X-Qpack?

In college I had a laundry bag disappear. I was in the habit of leaving it in the laundry room of my on-campus apartments (UCSD) since it was just an old mesh bag. Well, it disappeared. About two weeks later it was back in there so I retrieved it.

I've built a system using this case, and also swapped out the PS as it appears you intend to do.

The PS that comes with it is smaller that a conventional PS. Your Optical drives will not fit (well they will unless you want power and data cables) unless you get shorter drives. That NEC will not fit as that was what I had ordered originally. Ended up with a Sony.

That PS is a good choice because you are going to have a heck of a time trying to hide wiring with two optical drives and a floppy. I built this system for a friend and he did not want a floppy. That was the only place I could stash the wires.

I have a post with pics of the build. Link

OCZ PSUs have a rep for being a bit deeper than others - I would use the original equipment unless it proves inadequate. Give you a bit more room in there.

I'm in the same fix as the OP and building a SFF for college in a few weeks. Luckily my dorm room will be keycard secured :D

But since I'm paranoid it'll likely be security locked to my desk anyways *shrugs*.

I have fit the XP-90 in an X-QPack. IT HAS TO BE FANLESS though. otherwise all that should work with the exception for the PSU you have there. the one that comes with the case is really nice actually.

not sure about your question.. but i just this weekend built a Qpack using a zalman 7000.. fits great.

i agree w/ above poster about chenming, though.. i really like the 1 or no window look. i already scratched 1 window with a misplaced harddrive fan.

Last year a girl pooped in front of my dorm room. Needless to say, we were all thoroughly disgusted, but somewhat amused :D
