I personnaly think you should buy a real bike and get outside to enjoy some fresh air and some real exercise versus sitting on that thing in front of a TV. Just my .02.

As for this one, I don't know anything about it but it looks fine. Wouldn't expect much for $200 but see if they have a display model at the store you can ride for a bit to see if it seems sturdy and well made.

I have a real bike and I do use it. However, the heat and humidity in Alabama during the summer are not conducive with my schedule of when I have time to exercise.

Additionally, my neighborhood has annoying traffic at times (along with construction) and no sidewalk or bike trail. I typically ride in parks and the like, but only when I have a way to transport.

My car cannot transport a bike. At all. So, I ride in parks/the woods when I have the chance, and I ride in the street when there is low traffic/construction activity. I have my reasons. Don't stereotype me unfairly just because I'm buying an indoor bike.

Go for it. Unlike an upright bike there will be less pressure around the crotch area which may damage nerves and your sex enjoyment. ;)

I recall that a recumbent is good for long distance riding, more comfortable to sit on and more efficient. I suppose it may be more comfortable as an exercise bike and that might get you to use it more.

Exactly. You sit on your ass, not your ntdz (i hope i spelled that right maybe i should search P&N for troll to confirm). Upright bikes are better for cardio, chicks like recumbent because it really works your glutes.

With exercise equipment you generally get what you pay for. In other words: I'd look into spending more for something worthwhile.

I bought a Schwinn recumbent bike myself and setup an LCD tv and dvd player nearby.

With recumbent bikes you can still get a great workout. I use mine all the time, especially when I'm cutting (amateur bodybuilder). It all depends on how much effort you put in, like anything else, though. Some people get extraordinarily lazy on a recumbent because it allows you to do so. Don't let it do that to you (relatively easy to avoid) and you'll be fine.

My workout clothes always get soaked with sweat while using my recumbent which should be a testament to how hard you can go at it (not that sweating is the sole indicator--my sustained heart rate and other thing go to a good cardio level and I feel good afterwards, knowing and feeling I expended myself)

I have a Lifefitness Lifecycle ($500 used gym model, probably $2.5K+ new) and the quality is a lot higher than the $300 upright that it replaced.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it's an older design that's much noisier than the last few model years. I'll probably replace it with a brand-new home model Lifecycle next time I move.

Which is a roundabout way of saying if you can afford it, you should also go try out a $1,500 Lifefitness model to see whether the higher quality is worth the extra price to you.

Oh and I'd advise you to look into Craigslist for used equipment in your area. You could save a tonne of money that way.

Make sure that its a good brand to begin with and has adequate life left on the warranty. Also look for minimal usage.

There is bound to be hordes of people who bought stuff for New Years and have since thrown it aside. Take advantage, man! :laugh:

My healthclub had a recumbent bike with a video screen, where you can race against other computer bikers.

Best bike I ever used because the races are always challenging and motivating, and make time go by very fast.

running is much better than biking for cardio.

Good point. You can find Lifefitness parts for many years after a model stops production and people who know how to repair them, since they're one of the top brands.

Find someone's $1,500 recumbent that's a couple of months old and buy it for $800.

Not that it could be bad on the knees or anything, right? :D

I think, on the whole, a cross-trainer is the best cardio machine possible. Reasonably low-impact and gets everything moving.

woofs down a salami sandwich after reading the thread...I personally dont like stationary bikes..find then unstable...Id rather be on my bowflex or on the tennis court
