Hey guys. Just got this for signing up for a new bank account. I know absolutely nothing about this other than it tells time and is a pedometer. Anyone have any opinions about it? I'm trying to decide if it's worth keeping. Thanks!

Its counts calories burnt and could track your sleep etc.
My flex died within a year(battery issues)

It depends on the person. I think it's a useful tool. I've had friends that have gotten one and for them it was just a novelty that wore off after a month.

If it's a free gift, I think it's worth keeping if you feel like you need some extra motivation to be more active.

My wife loves hers. She is kinda a fitness freak though, so the way the Fitbit feeds her apps the data is what makes her happy.

Personally nothing is going on my wrist ever again that can't show me notifications.

would you recommend it as a useful tool? or a novelty item that got bored after a few weeks?

it's a good tool if you want to get healthy and walk more. if you don't care about things like exercise, it's pretty pointless.

you need to link it to a smartphone right? is it easy to work with? I don't want another device that requires a tedious setup with byzantine menu systems...

You'll need the app and or an actual program installed on your computer to get the tracking and upload to fitbit site.

It's all pretty easy though like 5 mins of setup.

My take is that given that any modern phone can do fitness tracking and smartwatches are taking over, I really don't find a point in a dedicated device. We're at the point maybe 5 years ago when people were asking if it's still worth it to buy an iPod.
