Fishy-looking Ebay auction....what do you guys think?

Okay, so I'm watching an auction for a road bike frame. Some doofus who just "joined" Ebay on Nov 11 is bidding seemingly randomly on the item.....even bidding when he is the current high bidder. Item started at $50 and is now up to $200 with almost three days to go.

Bid history.

So, is this guy just a brain-dead n00b who doesn't know better or is the seller jacking the bid up since it was pretty much being ignored prior to the arrival of "eem01"? Do I have any recourse with Ebay, or is this just another one to chalk up on the big EBAY IS FOR DIPSH*TS wall of shame?

He's bidding on 4 auctions - all Cannondales. The sellers are all over the country, so it doesn't look like a concerted effort to boost prices.

Look at this auction. Looks like a clueless n00b.

The guy's local. Should I send in the goons to tapdance on his kneecaps? :D

You see Brutus' post under this? Talk to him privately. He knows people. EBay sucks my left big toe. And yes; I still bid on stuff there too. EBay is Cocaine of the 2000's.

I ride a 58cm by most manufacturers. I was actually looking for something a tad spiffier than a Cannondale, but this looked like it might turn out to be a good deal plus the guy's local so I'd not be paying shipping.

Bunch of individuals profiting off criminal activity?

Excellent analogy mike. I completely agree.

This is completely aggravating. Should I send "eem" an email and tell him to knock it off? Can Egay do anything about this kind of crap? :|

AHH I guess my hand made one off Bruce Gordon frame would be too small for you then.

Been toying with the idea of selling it.

Though I'd kick my ass later if I did.

I can get K2, KHS though. And there is a shop here local that makes custom frames. (Co-Motion)

Also Burley, Bike Friday....

Gordon used to build here in town, till he moved to Cal. (Now THERE'S a switch for you...someone moving TO Cal. FROM Oregon!

No, no, no...I'm cranky..don't mess w/me tonight please. You have the HONEST people and the EBay people...Brutus is a cool guy....don't worry about him. EBay is evil. Anandtech.com (<--the correct address and I'd like my royalty check by Tuesday, please) is a great resource for EVERYONE including myself. :) We all have outside interests. "Outside" meaning not computers. Not video. Not Osama Bin Laden Spring Training Camp (BSD?) etc, etc.

If a guy making an honest living can help another guy making an honest living, that's a beautiful thing.

Hmmm....what's the going rate on the aluminum K2 frameset with the carbon rear stays (the MOD, I believe)? That would fit the bill. I've currently got a Merckx MX leader that I love, but it's a tank. I'm tired of having a 25lb road bike....something light would be very novel.

I just noticed something else.....the bikes he's bidding on are all over the place size-wise. No way in hell could someone who rides a 58cm road bike (my size) ever fit on a Medium Cannondale mountain bike. I think the guy is just f*cking auctions up for giggles. :|

Hehe this is gonna KILL you.

I have my Gordon (Columbus SLX/SLR/SL STEEL frame) down to SUB 19Lbs!!

I'll check on prices when I go to work tomarrow if you like.

They only list compleat bikes though, so I'm not sure if I can score just a frame set. I'll see what I can do though.

Thanks, I'd appreciate it. :)

Looks like I would require a "Large" by the K2 geometry charts. Top tube on my Merckx is 57.5cm but has a slightly slacker seatpost angle than the K2 does (I tend to ride scooched back on the saddle since I'm more or less a gear masher).

Yeah the K2's run small compaired to other bikes it seems.

You want JUST the frame, or a whole bike?

(Just the frame I would assume!?)

whatever you do, don't get caught up in a bidding war against someone. Just use a snipe program found here thats free to use, and so you don't have to worry about idiots like that guy driving up the price.

<~ 22lbs, Marin, aluminum :)

he's not outbidding himself...it's the proxy bidding service that's making it seem like he's bidding himself...proxy bidding works when someone outbids u, but ur proxy bid is higher than the other dude's bid...so ebay automatically bids for u until it has reached the maximum bid...

Hehe....just kidding. Nice bike, I'm toying with the idea of a Prince if I can land a good deal on one.

Brutuskend: Yes, just a frame/fork. I'm a diehard Campy guy, so I'll be transferring most of my Record kit over to whatever I end up buying.
