Fisherman - recommend some gear/lures

No Lifer
Going on a camping/fishing trip and it's been a LONG time. The fish will mainly be big/small mouth bass and stripers. I've got a nice bait caster I can use but I'm sure it needs some new line.

Any recommendations on a rod/reel/line for this? I don't know what kind of lures to use anymore, I always used spinners for bass.

Thanks in advance.

14lb flourocarbon is good, but a bit pricey. I like it a lot for it's low visability characteristics. Always keep a few chrome/black or chrome/blue Rat-L-Traps handy, smallish shad-raps too. They catch every type of bass there is. Soft plastic crawfish imitations (on jigheads or Texas-Rigged) are good for largemouth and especially smallmouth bass, as well as small finesse worms or lizards. Small topwater plugs are good early and late in the day too.

Spinners are good for early morning casting along tree-lines or stumps, usually. Worms and lizards for rock embankments or weedy/reedy areas.

Rat-L-Traps? shad-raps? Are those a brand name or a type?

Gunslinger - thanks for the tipes. Anything special about the worms/lizards or are they just rubbery ones?

Rat-L-Trap is a type and brand all in one. Shad-Rap is a name/type by Rapala.

The worms/lizards are just soft plastic ones. Get some 2/0 or 3/0 hooks for 'em.

Well I went out and got a whole slew of stuff. Plastic lizards, crawdads, a worm combo kit with shaker heads. A "Chatterbait" kit - not bad for 10 bucks, lots of different kinds of lures you can make. Some deep crank baits to hopefully get down to the stipers. Some leaders, 10 and 14 lb line and to top it off a "ugly stick" rod/reel combo for 40 bucks.

The number of baits out there is nuts. I'll see if I can find the rat-l-trap and shad-rap.

Thanks again for the tips.

Some of these names are hilarious..."The ChatterFrog".
