Feeding: twice a week

clean fish bowl(no filter) once every two months

My beta is not three years old because of my stringent fish care schedule.

The real key to keeping betas alive for long periods of time is to keep males in pairs. The social bond that forms between them contributes to their well being.

Have you seen the plant-tanks? It is a clear glass vase (about a gallon total volume) with a narrow neck adn a large round base where a fish lives in the bottom and there is a plant stuffed into the neck. The fish lives off the roots of the plants, the plant cleans the water, and the plant gives the water oxygen. My mom is making one for my dad's office... it looks sweet. She is gonna throw a beta in there... but only one :) I, however, would throw in a few and let them decide who gets the penthouse ;)
