I tend to buy freash every year or every other year, including socks. They just get abused by me. So easily do they tare or stain.
 
The oldest pair I have is about 5 years old, thats not saying much since i am embarassed to say how many pairs i have and they are on a wide rotation.
 
I wear boxer briefs and buy all new ones yearly.

I think it'd probably be useful to know how many you have in rotation. I have about a dozen.
 
Switched to moisture wicking briefs about a year ago. $18 a pair, but these are worth it for the comfort and should last forever (6% spandex/ 94% nylon).
 
I only buy Tommy Hilfiger boxers for the last 15 years or so. They generally last 7-9 years before they get a hole or wear out. So on average my underwear is over 5 years old with some as old as 10 years and still in perfect shape.
