First Upgrade in Years: New Case and PSU?

It has been years since I upgraded my computer and I'm completely out of the loop now. I have an old Chenbro Genie with I believe an Antec Truepower 350 PSU. I'm thinking that I should think about upgrading my case?

The Antec P182 gets recommended a lot, and while I don't exactly like the looks of it, the price fits within my budget. I actually like the looks of the Coolermaster Cosmos but I read here that is a hit and miss? So any advice you can give me? Right now I'm thinking of getting a P182 with an Enermax Modu82+ (not sure about power). What do you guys think?

Hey Howie,

Welcome to the AT forums.

What are the components that are going to call the new case home? Most newer PSUs are designed to deliver most of their power on the 12V rail while older (particularly older AMD) mobos need significant to large power on the +5V rail. I don't particularly care for the starkly industrial look of the p180/190 Antecs, but they can make for a very low noise and reasonably cool system. Hard to suggest some cases w/o knowing the current and planned components.

What Zepper said about the case applies to the PSU as well. It's tough to make a recommendation without knowing what the system components will be.

If you don't like the look of the P182 then don't buy it. There are other good cases out there. A lot of people like the Cooler Master RC-690.

I am looking to build a system based on value this time around. I'm thinking of building a system based on the Asus P5Q (not sure about version), the Intel E8400/8500, and a graphics card in the $200-300 range (probably won't have crossfire at least initially). I do plan to overclock a bit, but will overclock only at levels that will pretty much give me 100% stability. I would prefer a case that looks good, but performance does matter. Any ideas?

With the PSU, I'd go with a Corsair, they have a 520 and 620 modular PSU, as well as a 650 non-modular. The Enermax looks good, but one of their recent PSU's, the Liberty had some troubles with units dying after a while, so hopefully this new design has fixed that.
