First trialer for the game "Portals" by Valve! WOW!

Wow. :Q

That looks really awesome. Definitely a refreshing change from the standard shoot-em-up. Half-Life Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and now this?! ******, I can't wait.

looks like they are really adding the value to ep 2. I wonder if it'll be much more expensive.

Even if it is more expensive, at least its justified. I mean if Prey can charge people $50 for 6 hours of gameplay (I beat it in 5 hours...NOT RUSHED), then I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for all these awesome content.

Yeah, that's the thing. Well I'd be willing to pay $30 to maybe $40. I figure Half-Life Episode 2 and Portal combined must be at least half of a regular single player game? Then you get TF2 which is online, which for me I can play for a looong time, especially if it's good.

this actually reminds me of some quakeworld mod, it didn't have portals, but to complete each level you used your rocket launcher and grenades to propel yourself around to get to point a > b > c > d, or however long the mapper made it.

there was this one map, where you had to make around 4 timed attacks all while flying in the air, to get to another side.
some of those maps were ridiculous, but watching someone experienced play them was quite cool.

dizzaaaamn... prey^infinity = "portals"... pretty frickin sweet (good luck being that quick with a gun on an xbox 😉)

I think I'm going to get vertigo after playing that game. I wonder how they deal with your orentation. How does the game change the camera/gun orentation when you just came out of a portal upside down.

I hope they keep adding content if it's a story mode game. Like add a puzzle mode or something crazy, and then have a time attack version of the same map. WHO KNOWS. POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS.

@zensal: what? but like, isn't that one of the best parts? it helps seperate the people who suck or can't 'adapt' from the pros 🙂

some excepts from narbacular_drop_game_design_document.pdf

"3.2.c Creating Portals (most details occur in section 3.3)
No-knees can have 2 portals active in Wally at any time. Let us call them portal A and portal B. Left
click creates portal A, while right click creates portal B on the wall where the player is looking."

"3.3.a Properties
Portal A links to portal B and portal B links to portal A. Portals break 3D space in a way so that it
was as if there weren't a portal at all. Looking through a portal you can clearly see what it leads to. Objects
and No-knees can freely move through these portals. Orientation changes between portals (ex: portal A is
on the wall, portal B is on the floor) are handled with respect to the portals' relative orientations. So facing
into A means that you will face out of B. Here's some basic cases:"

wow, my jaw was on the floor watching that. Looks really cool, can't wait for all these things! This is how I felt when I saw the first vids of the gravity gun. It looks like it'd be fun just to play around with.
