First timer with Yamaha amp problem

Morning! Been lurking for a while and looks like this is the place to go for help. Picked up a used Yamaha rx-v559 and in testing everything out, found a dead left front channel when "B" speakers are selected. "A" works fine. Any thoughts? Thanks and appreciate the site.

It's not an amp, it's a receiver.
How do you know it's dead? Did you try the test tones? Maybe it's just turned down? Did you buy it "as is"?

Just use A. That A, B thing is really just a speaker switcher.

A and B are basically for multi-room usages, You can run speakers to another room oor outside channel B and switch A off so you can listen to your ipod outside for example.

Are you saying that when you plug speakers into B that the left channel does not work at all? If you aren't running speakers to two rooms or anything like that it's probably nothing to worry about as A channel will be the primary one used.

OP, if the unit doesn't work with B speakers installed then you have a problem.

If you don't use B speakers, then why worry 🙂

Love Yamaha receivers. Unfortunately the past 7 years they had to adjust their line to hide raising prices but fortunately their mid-higher end receivers that share the same chassis and have triggers are still solid pieces that will last you close to a decade. The other lucky thing is around this time is when they discount their previous models to nearly half price to make room for the new ones.

So I hope you didn't pay too much for yours used. I'm talking garage sale price of $20-$40. The B output is not something you'll use often... if at all. My recommendation is to reset the receiver. I think it involved holding down a button then turning it on to get to a menu. It's detailed in the manual.

Was just able to get back on here. What I would like to do is use this receiver for a bonus room system with the A fronts as part of a 5.1 setup, and the B fronts feeding a pair of deck speakers. I've reset to factory defaults, run the setup menus, checked test tones on all speakers and all work fine except the left front when B is selected. When I hooked up the speakers the first time, the + left front B was very difficult to open/close the binding plug, as if the threads were stripped. It's possible there could be mechanical damage inside if someone wrenched the plug somehow. Thanks for the suggestions. And to razel, yes, a $25 flea market find.
