First time?

There are many "first times" we experience in life. No need for details on many of them, and I'm sure we all have memories of our "firsts".

Added another first to my list today, one I never saw coming, at least not until this week.

I donated to a political candidate, something I have never done in my 78 years. I went to Kamala Harris's website and made a donation to her campaign.

I have made donations to different causes many times, to directly help people or animals, but never to a politician or election campaign. Hopefully this will bear fruit, and help people, literally millions of people, and I can be returning to donating to our local humane society.

I gave to Bernie's campaign in 2016, my first and only time so far.
I liked Bernie, still do. I like Joe, still do, they both have my respect. As much as I wanted Biden to beat Trump, I was never excited enough to donate. Kamala, I'm excited now thus donating.

I donated to Biden/Harris in 2020, and even put a sign up in the yard. That's bold for my part of Wisconsin. My wife has already donated enough for Harris for us both, so I bought some 9mm ammo in case the apocolypse comes in a few months.

I have never had a yard sign or bumper sticker, but I'm having a debate with myself about the possibility of a Harris sign this year. Still undecided, but prior to this election, it has always been a hard NO!

I never got any kind of merch before either. I do have a 'Make America Think Again' bumper sticker in blue, so it is political, but not for any candidate.

But I do have a Kamala '24 t-shirt that has shipped and is on its way to me!

I still have my Clinton/Kaine sticker on my back bumper. Around here I don't remember seeing a Trump bumper sticker, so it's not really a badge of courage.

Now, Kamala Harris was raised from birth at a very modest little abode in Berkeley that's about 1 mile from me. I had a look at it one day a few years ago. I pass within a few blocks of it every time I ride my bicycle to the gym.

In my 49 years of life so far, I have never donated to any politician, worn a t-shirt or brandished a bumper sticker. But it has been on my mind this past week and I am going to break that glass ceiling right now ..

done
This should have the repugnant's in a panic.

Less than 20 posts here and at least 3 first timers, and we are not alone...

The contributions have come from 1.4 million donors, 64% of whom were making their first donations of the 2024 election cycle.

I stopped donating to Democrats when Biden didn't fire Merrick Garland for failing to indict Trump. I will not donate again until my tax dollars stop helping Israel kill Palestinian women and children intentionally.

I think that is one of Harris top campaign issues though.

Fetterman is interesting. He honestly reminds me a bit of myself--I've had severe anxiety issues, some health issues (not stroke, but cancer), we even kinda look similar, and I have an anti-authority streak a mile long (he apparently does too considering that dress code rebellion!)

I am not qualified for public office, that anti-authority thing would get me. I barely survive in corporate IT!

As far as the Israel/Palestine thing...It's not really a factor for me. Neither party is likely to be great on the issue, but Trump will likely do even more to aid his buddy Netanyahu if anything. There are other (more, to me) important things where the parties differ quite a bit, such as environmental/climate change and that little thing about not turning into a Christian fascist state.

I've given before but this is the first time for Kamala. Probably do it a few more times too.
Welcome to the first timers.
We have to put the orange menace down.
No ifs, ands or buts.
