Here is the thing. I believe I have registered before, but I'm not sure. How can I check if I am registered? I live in Ohio. My GF has the same question and she lives in PA.

Further, did I have to vote/register before the primary to be allowed to vote in this election? what about the gf?

both of us are 22.

yeah you can re-register. or at least go up to your local tax office (unsure if this is the same thing in OH) and ask them, they can dig in the computer to see if you are still registered and tell you what you need to do.

Just register again to be sure. You still have time.

I'm about to move and am worried about this myself. Do you know how long it takes for registration through that site to take effect? Will I receive a new voter's registration card in the mail or something like that?

If you are moving out of your district, which I suspect you are, you definatley should go to the local tax office and discuss it with someone who actually has all the rules in black and white for you. Oh and perhaps contact the people at your new district too. The online stuff seems so vague.

I did it online, but I can't remeber how long it took. They send you a card to sign and send back.

It's not always a tax office, it varies by state. In M ichigan, you do it at the secretary of state's office.

Goto your state's website, and it should offer some tips. If not, call a local politicians office and ask them for help.

Can you guys not register at the polls? Here we just bring in ID and proof of address, fill out the form, and we're good to go. It's less convenient, so few people do it. But it sure helps. This year, we had our Federal election 6 mos after our Provincial. I was on the list for the Provincial one, and they are supposed to share lists, but for some reason I was not on the Federal list. Sure am glad we have our system, otherwise I wouldn't have had the opportunity to vote for the wrong party. ;-)

Not all states allow registration at the polls-without researching it, I think most don't. I know this was a big issue in the election reform law passed a while back-the Republicans were threatening to torpedo it because it provided for voter registration at the polls. The official Administration line was at-poll registration will lead to more voter fraud. A cynic would say it would lead to more voter turnout, which usually favors the Dems.

Check that rockthevote website or call your town-every state's procedure is different. Here in Connecticut you register to vote at your local town clerk's office. But follow through on this for sure, regardless of how you intend to vote.

I just found the info for my state. There's so many options that we shouldn't need at-the-poll registration. Hell, you can even go to the library to register here.

Ok, for PA, it says 30 days before election or primary.

does that mean, if you want to vote in the primary you would have to had registered 30 days before the primary and if you want to vote in the election you would have to register 30 days before that?

contact your local government office. They will either be able to handle it or direct you to the people that can do so.

Difficult to register from out of state.

If you're worried, you can always get an absentee ballot.
