First time using Priceline.com for hotels/resorts...

You pay $$ up front and you get a random hotel assigned to you at your named price?

You don't get to know the list of hotels beforehand?

I don't get it. I want to plan a resort for my family of four in Cape Cod. They're asking for my CC already to land a random 'resort'.

Am I missing something?
 
That's the idea, you can get a substantial savings but don't have much control where it will be.

Go to one of the sites like bid4travel or betterbidding, they'll give you an idea of what hotels are avaiable for around what price.
 
their choice of hotels are pretty decent IMO. i once got a deal of $67 in a 3-star hotel in Napa valley. turns out it's a newly renovated Marriott, and not the courtyard one.

yeah...the prices have gone up though....Can still get super good deals in downtown and airport areas

I had several 3 star for under $40 and a some 4 stars for under $50 as well...

I use priceline and hotwire all the time...Hotwire usually sucks though and their star ratings are extremely screwy
 
i don't like it/use it either

some people are ok with that model, i am too much a control freak
 
you can often figure out which hotel it is based on the description combined with knowledge of hotels in that area
 
I'm usually cool using it for hotels. I don't care using it for flights. I got burned once or twice with horrible flight times and decided to stop.
