First time overclocking

well yesterday i finally got all the parts for my new computer:

e6750
abit ip35 pro
evga 8800gt 512mb superclocked
2x2gb g.skill ddr2-1000
thermalright ultima 90
vista 64 ultimate
and a few other things

anways, it was also my first time building a computer. took about 3 hours because i wanted to take my time doing it. booted up perfectly on first try, as soon as i got into the bios i immediately went to uguru and tried overclocking (just for fun). in less than 15 seconds i had these settings:

cpu external clock to 400mhz (for an oc of 3.2ghz)
multiplier at 8x
running memory 1:1
cpu voltage 1.4
ram voltage 1.9 (this type of ram actually operates at 2-2.1v but i wanted to try 1.9)

that was all i messed around with, i will have to go deeper later. ive been running orthos for 7 hours, 10 minutes and everything is perfect. passed all tests. cpu idle temps are ~18-19C and load temps never go above 40C. this is awesome.

also i have been running crysis at very high settings 1280x768, no AA with a very playable framerate. it auto-detected my system for everything set to very high. i have only been playing the first level but it is smooth as butter. ill probly have to lower the settings a bit as i get more into the game but so far so good. as soon as i try to go to 1600x1200 though, it is just unplayable.
 
at 15C. some software programs read the G0 stepping Core2's TJunction 15C too low so your temp readouts are 15C too low
 
Yeh, coretemp wont work on his 64-bit OS, so he'll be using speedfan. Speedfan is 15decrees too cold. And yeh, Orthos will be out too im guessing.

You're getting same temps as meish - high 20's low 30's idle, 55max

and 1.4v is a lot of cpu voltage..lol

and you jumped straight from stock to 3.2GHz? risky..

Why do you say that? 3.2GHz is a dead cinch with the E6750. If anything, he went too quickly and should have tried the 3.2GHz at stock voltages...

If your Sempron is an Intel G0 stepping, then yes. BTW, core temps are utterly useless with AMD processors, unless you think that a 30°C swing is okay. AMD says that their core temp readings are +/- 15°C (they don't even have a thermal diode inside their cores, like Intel does).
 
the E6750 can easily hit 3.2GHz. And that is all on stock volts over your complete board. 1.4V is too high to run your C2D e6750 @ 3.2GHz.
Dump uGuru and manually do your settings in BIOS.

You are running 64 bit Vista, add 15C to the temperatures in speedfan, or buy Everest which gives a good reading on your cpu temperature. I am running Vista 64bit Ultimate and opted for Everest.

Why do you guys say that CoreTemp doesn't work in Vista64? I have it working just fine on my box, reported temps are maybe 2-3C lower (idle & under load) than what it reports if I boot to XP instead on the same rig.
 
thanks for all of your comments. yeah i backed down the voltage to 1.35v (stock) and am now running the memory at it's default 1000mhz 5-5-5-15 @ 2v. booted fine and will orthos/memtest soon.
