First Time OCing

I have a AMD Tbird 1.0 Ghz 100fsb on a MSI K7t Pro2-A. I was wondering if anyone could give me pointers in overclocking this because this would be my first time.

I've heard of people going from a 1.0 Ghz to 1.4...so of course that has gotten me interested.

Any advice will help. I've never done this before, and I've never seen anyone do this before, so talk to me like a first grader 🙂

Raise the FSB. For now, don't worry about "unlocking" the CPU, or anything like that. A 10x multiplier & a starting FSB of 100 is good, just start cranking the FSB up. That is a KT133A board, right? Or is it KT133? If it's KT133 you'll have to unlock the CPU & raise the multiplier.

Raise the voltage to 1.85V, & push the FSB until it crashes. Does your motherboard allow fine adjustments in FSB speed (Like 1 MHz)?

Unfortunately MSI board's multiplier is buggy at best.🙁

You can unlock your chip & try but it's very tricky to get a msi board to post with the multiplier you set in the bios.

Since you have a kt133 board your best bet would be to try the FSB OC.

Actually, my main concern is, if you push your chip too far...will it be fried? or will your pc just shut down, and you can go back in the BIOS and change it back to a stable state? Second, how do you tests to make sure your system is stable?

You will lose stability long before you do any damage. When it does crash (and it will, if you're pushing it), simply reset & move on. Sometimes you'll have to reset the CMOS to get it to POST again, but it's no big deal.
