Teach him a lesson! Maybe if the same sentance was given to all people caught possessing pot then the amount of it be sold and bought would go down. It needs to be cracked down on.

I want a mandatory prison sentence of 3 years next time you go over the speed limit.

I don't drive yet 🙂

death sentence to those useless 18+ fellows.
life sentence to those below 18.

i think it's fair. this is the only way to really stop it from happening.
my thought.
Besides it being cruel and inhuman punishment (and a really ignorant thing to say), how would we go about financing the building and administration of the 1000's of new prisons we would need to incarcerate our fellow Americans due to such Draconians laws?

Actually you don't have to answer that because I'm sure you haven't given it any thought just like you didn't give your statement any thought before you posted it.

i mean, life sentence with chance of parole like 5-10 years later.
how can this be cruel ?? if u r above 18, u r supppose to be reponsible to yourself.
if u want to go that direction, this is what u should get.
build more jail ?? of course, not that the goverment can help. if there enough crime, thre'll be enough space for those who deserve it. You want the government to say :" Oh, jail is useless, we rather use that fund to build tall buildings..., let those criminal free, we dont want to feed them" ??? Of course not.

obviously it will not 100% stop this thing from going on .
but it does stop alot of poeple from even going near that direction.

how is 5-10 years for speeding sound? how can it be cruel if u r above 18, u r supposed to be responsible to yourself.

in fact, the sentence for speeding should be double that of marajana possession since speed kills, not just you but others around you. having a plant, umm.. does nothing really.

its a lack of consistency, logic/reasoning, that makes laws like these draconian.

Which brings me to another point. You are at most 15, right? Once your get older and get out from under your mother's apron, you will realize that there is a great, big world out there. Only then will you realize the stupidity of this prison sentence.

Would he have gotten 26 years if his father worked for a major corporation or he had money?

It irks me how they can choose to make an example out of somebody. Whatever happened to a fair and just legal system? His lawyers should be appealing this sentence as well as looking at similar cases and length of prison sentence. Selling a little bit of Mary Jane does not constitute a 26 year jail sentence.

I agree. This is insane. I hope NORML helps the kid out. To all you people who claim anyone defending this kid is just another hippie pot smoker you need to open your eyes. This decision will RUIN this kids life, competely. He made a bad choice to smoke some pot, yes, people make mistakes. 26 years is inane, that constitutes cruel and unusual punishment to me. Like others have said, there are people who commit much more serious crimes and get off with less... I can't even think about this anymore.. it's disturbing.
