first time installing gpu block, shorted. help!

I just installed a pair of swiftech mcw60s and unisinks on a pair of 6970s. Sparks flew out of the top one when I turned it on. Ive been water cooling cpus for a couple years, but this is my first foray into gpu cooling. Any ideas on what I did wrong and tips on not doing it again?

I should have pictures of the disassembled parts tomorrow.

10 bucks says the Pcb bent a tiny bit and caused a short on the unisink.

Swiftech is telling me the backplate standoffs weren't the right length, so too much mounting force was used. Gonna make myself a new backplate, but I'll post carnage pics tomorrow.

i need pictures to see what happened.

but im fairly sure unless the sink was faulty or u really overtighten them and warped your pcb, there is no way u could of gotten sparks to fly.

Definitely warped the pcb. It was visibly bent, I dunno why I didn't notice it when I was plugging it into the mobo. Anyways, pic of something above my vreg that got torched:

On the bright side: only one card got fried.

Also, the whole reason I have these 6970's: I got blackout drunk a couple weeks back, and woke up the next day with 4 emails from ebay. All for placing bids on 6970's. No idea what I was thinking. I won all my bids though. So, at least I have spares.

Don't ebay while intoxicated, kids.

Also, if anybody knows what I fried and where I can get another to solder on, hit me up. Otherwise I'm mounting this as the first piece on my wall of shame.

I really know how to have a good time when I drink. :/

I'm gonna plug it into an old core2duo tower and see what happens. If it fires up I will be the happiest man alive. If it doesn't, then hey, more free fireworks.

Keaborg your sig is wrong. Shouldn't it say "custom garden hose loop?"

All of my crap still works 😉

Whatever, home depot homeboy.

God mode, an undamaged card doesn't have burn marks. Or oozing capacitors.

Rest of my pc still works, but I need to remount my cpu because temps are through the roof under load.
